Now that King Charles and Prince Harry have taken the first step towards reconciliation, everyone’s wondering if the relationship between the prince and the rest of his family can be fixed. People are especially interested in his relationship with his brother Prince William, as the two used to be incredibly close. And that, of course, extends to his brother’s wife, Kate Middleton. But things there are still complicated.
“There is still ongoing tension with William and Kate,” a source told Us Weekly. “They are deeply hurt by the public disclosures, memoir revelations and interviews and criticisms of their roles, which they perceive as breaches of trust that require significant time to heal from, which is why they aren’t there yet.”

However, insiders reveal the meeting between King Charles and Prince Harry as “super positive and very relaxed,” which bodes well for the future of all the familial relationships. But there was reportedly no attempt to set up a meeting between the brothers while Harry was in the UK. “There has also been no direct communication between aides like there has been with Charles,” the insider added.
“William and Kate haven’t initiated or responded to outreach from Harry at all. They do need more time.”
But the source’s focus on time being needed indicates there’s still a possibility things between the brothers could be fixed. “There’s emotional distance between the three of them,” the source said, adding, “There are lingering resentments of past conflicts, including Harry’s comments about Kate in his book. It left William guarded and needing more time to process before a face-to-face with Harry.”
Prince Harry recently spoke about his memoir, Spare and the revelations about his family made in it, telling The Guardian, “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”
“I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative,” he added. “The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.”
All of this comes after recent reports that Prince William wasn’t exactly on board with the reconciliation and that learning that it happened made him extremely angry. According to the Daily Mail, William is upset that Harry is being forgiven by King Charles. “William is back at the point where if you mention Prince Harry in his presence he would throw you out of the room,” a palace insider told the outlet. “He’s doubling down.”
But there are also reports that King Charles’ health is bad enough that the brothers might find common ground in worrying about him. According to Parade, the reality is that “King Charles really isn’t doing well,” and that fact could bring William and Harry together.
“It wouldn’t be surprising if William and Harry reconnected a bit more over this,” the source said. “This could be the thing that pushes it to happen.”
A full reconciliation for the British royal family? It’s at least a possibility.
