After King Charles and Prince Harry finally met, the questions started swirling about what was next. Could this lead to a reconciliation between Prince Harry and Prince William? What did Kate Middleton think about it? What about Meghan Markle? Was there a chance the entire family could reunite soon?

While some reports indicate Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t ready for a reconciliation quite yet, everyone also wondered how Meghan Markle would react. And when her only public comment after the meeting was a post welcoming her husband home, everyone took that to mean the two were definitely on the same page. But then, Markle posted something else, a birthday tribute to her husband. And that, according to some reports, wasn’t just about wishing him a happy birthday.

Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop reported that the birthday post was a distraction from Harry’s new interview, which some have called “tone-deaf.” That, according to the journalist, was when his wife decided to step in and divert attention, all while celebrating his 41st birthday.

Sources claimed the move was “smart” because “Harry’s comments stirred up a storm.” Those same sources claim her birthday post was a sincere congratulations to her husband, but it “wasn’t just about love.” Instead, they viewed it as an attempt at “changing the narrative” and moving the “spotlight back to their marriage” instead of his “feud with the royals.”

The aforementioned post featured a throwback picture of Prince Harry, which PEOPLE reported dates back to Harry’s 31st birthday, when he visited Goodwood Aerodrome to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. In the caption, Markle wrote, “Oh hi, Birthday Boy” with a fire emoji.

According to Shuter, the flirty post was calculated. Markle “wanted the headlines to be about her thirsting after Harry,” not about his latest comments. If so, good move on her part, and honestly, what’s more normal than a wife thirsting over her husband?

Prince Harry’s comments came during an interview with The Guardian, where he discussed his memoir Spare and what he said about his family in the book, defending himself from accusations that he made things public that perhaps he shouldn’t have. “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear,” he said.

The interview took place after his meeting with his father, King Charles, which was reportedly “super positive and very relaxed,” something that at the time was taken as a positive sign for the future of not just their relationship, but the British royal family in general.

Harry also added, “I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative,” he added. “The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.”

The royal family might not agree with that assessment, but things still seem to be in a good place. We’ll have to wait and see if it lasts.
