Worrying about the health of the British royal family is practically a given these days for anyone who follows the royals. It’s to be expected, after Kate Middleton and King Charles were both diagnosed with cancer in the last year. And though Middleton is in remission and King Charles’ cancer is reportedly manageable, that doesn’t mean their health and that of the rest of the family isn’t intensely scrutinized.
Queen Camilla is no exception, and that worry seemed to intensify after she did not attend the funeral of the Duchess of Kent alongside King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales. As reported by the BBC, Queen Camilla sent her “deep regrets” at having to miss the service due to acute sinusitis.

Her absence was announced ahead of time. “Her thoughts and prayers will be with the Duke of Kent and all the family,” a statement from Buckingham Palace read. All of this ignited speculation about whether she would take part in planned events for the state visit of US President Donald Trump. But it seems like the Queen’s health has recovered enough to take part in the state visit, indeed.
The Queen had said she was hopeful she’d be sufficiently recovered, and she is said to be participating in all scheduled events she was supposed to take part in. This is especially important, considering President Trump’s comments about the reason for his visit. “Primarily, it’s to be with Prince Charles and Camilla,” he said. “They’re friends of mine for a long time, long before he was King, and it’s an honor to have this King.”
Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen, told Newsweek about the visit, “This is a very high-stakes state visit. The frill on the frock is the royalty.”
“I think Queen Camilla will be there for everything,” Seward added. “Sinusitis is very painful, but I think she’ll just drug herself up and get through the day. I would think that Charles is rather amused and bemused by Trump.”
Recent reports had painted Queen Camilla’s health issues as something to be concerned about. A source recently told RadarOnline, “Camilla really is on her last legs – literally. Along with all her other health issues, she can now hardly walk.”
The Queen is managing her issues, but there are reports that it won’t work forever. “She gets these Sole Bliss shoes made by a company in London shipped into the palace by the truckload as she is trying to cover up her feet deformities on royal engagements. She has the shoes hand-tooled to cover up the bony looking growths on the sides of her feet and totters around in them trying to pretend like there’s nothing wrong.”
Reportedly, “sooner or later she could be headed for a wheelchair – if she lives much longer.” Surgery to remove bunions is an option, but Queen Camilla has reportedly been warned against it as the surgery is very painful.
Concerns about Queen Camilla’s health come as reports about King Charles’ cancer indicate there’s no cure for him. Writer and associate editor of the Daily Telegraph, Camilla Tominey, recently said. “The talk now is that he may die ‘with’ cancer, but not ‘of’ cancer following a rigorous treatment program.”
Basically, it could all be worse, but it could all be better, and people will probably continue to be interested in any tiny updates about the health of both King Charles and Queen Camilla.
