Cancer is a very complicated illness. And that’s true for anyone, even if you aren’t in the public eye. So, it stands to reason that someone like Kate Middleton took some time away from the spotlight after she was diagnosed, and has had a slow return to royal duties since announcing her remission. But the time after recovery can still be hard. And for Middleton, there was speculation that her cancer battle was directly tied to her new look.

Now, RadarOnline is reporting that the Princess of Wales was “shaken to her core” by the reaction to her blonde locks and the “cancer wig” suggestions. “This has been a very tough time for Kate,” a source said. “She returned from the summer prepared to face the cameras again, but the harshness of the remarks really unsettled her. The suggestion that her hair was tied to her illness struck her particularly hard.”

Middleton had, in general, received a lot of support from the public during her cancer battle, which is reportedly why she was left so shaken. “She accepts that, as a public figure, her looks will always be scrutinized,” one palace aide said. “But after her diagnosis and recovery, she expected more compassion. Instead, trolls tore her apart over something as trivial as hair color – and it left her disheartened.”
This all comes after last year, after her remission was announced, a family friend made sure to point out that she “is not back to normal,” but there are signs of “light at the end of the tunnel.”
Middleton herself opened up about how hard the post-cancer period can be during a conversation with patients and staff members of the NHS just a few months ago. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she said, and then added that afterwards, “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”
“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she explained. “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you, and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”
Recently, there have been concerning reports about the Princess of Wales, particularly about Middleton’s weight. RadarOnline.com recently quoted a source as saying, “Kate is painfully thin, and people are worried it’s a sign that she is struggling with her recovery from cancer treatment – or worse, she’s had a relapse.”
“She’s been through so much, and she wants to be there for the royal family and do her part, but clearly she’s not well,” the source also said. “Word is she’s having a difficult time and has no appetite, and is losing weight as a result. She’s gaunt and has little to no muscle tone. Kate always had an athletic figure, but she’s far from it now.”
Speculating about people’s weight and health is a slippery slope, and we should always wait for official information in that regard. But if the Princess of Wales is indeed having a hard time adjusting to life post-cancer, then time is probably the only thing that will help.
