The real reason for Prince Harry’s reconciliation with King Charles may have been revealed after the estranged royals’ much-anticipated meeting.
A source told Radar Online in a report published on September 18 that, during his meeting with his father, Harry “begged” Charles to convince President Donald Trump—who visited Charles and other members of the British royal family on September 17—to not deny his U.S. visa or deport him for the country after he admitted in his 2024 book, Spare, to taking illegal substances like cocaine, cannabis, and psychadelic mushrooms.

“Harry is terrified this controversy could still blow up in his face,” the insider said. “He went down on his knees during his recent tea meeting with the King, asking him to get some kind of guarantee from Trump that his visa status would not be touched. He sees this banquet as the make-or-break moment.”
According to Buckingham Palace aides who witnessed the 54-minute reunion between Charles and Harry, the meeting was emotional. “Harry has made mistakes, and he knows his book created risks,” the source said. “He told his father he could not bear to uproot his family again, and begged him to intervene before Trump could make an example of him.”

Trump, who visited Windsor Palace with his wife Melania Trump, has hinted at his plans to review Harry’s immigration status after he claimed that the prince ha “embarassed the United Kingdom” in an interview earlier in 2025. “He should not get a pass just because he’s a royal,” he said at the time.
said: “Harry knows the admissions in Spare gave Trump ammunition. With the president on U.K. soil, there’s a fear he could seize the moment to humiliate him. That’s why Harry is leaning so heavily on the King right now,” a government source told Radar Online.
As for whether Charles told Trump of Harry’s concerns, another source told the website that the king is sympathetic toward his son, who lives in Montecito, California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children: Archie and Lilibet.
“The King does not want to see Harry forced out of the United States,” the insider said. “It would destabilize the family even further. But there is only so much he can do – this is about diplomacy with Trump, who relishes leverage.”
