These days, it feels like US political drama is rivaling the royals’ drama. Who needs news of the feud between King Charles and Prince Harry and updates about how Prince William feels about it, if we can have news about former President Biden and whether he tried to get President Trump and Melania Trump divorced? Yes, you read that right.

The Daily Beast just reported that during an interview on Newsmax, the President’s son, Eric Trump, spoke about how former President Biden tried to break up President Trump and his wife, Melania Trump.

It wasn’t the only claim the president’s third son made, but it was the only one that didn’t have to do with politics, and the only one that hadn’t been made before. “They tried to get him divorced! They tried to separate our family!” Eric Trump said. And though, at first, he didn’t name names and left it at “they,” then he did.

“And Merrick Garland was at the forefront of all of it. And Joe Biden was at the forefront of all of it when they raided our home, when they raided Mar-a-Lago, when they raided Melania’s closet, when they raided 16-year-old Barron’s room.”

The interview comes after Melania Trump was seen pulling away from her husband when he attempted to hold her hand right after they got back from the UK state visit, something that was also reported by The Daily Beast. The same outlet had also reported that the couple were seen having a heated exchange on board the presidential helicopter.

Just a few days before, while on a UK state trip, British newspapers reported the President and first lady slept in separate beds at Windsor Castle. And back in May, author Michael Wolff told the Daily Beast Podcast that Trump and Melania Trump are effectively “separated,” and “live separate lives.” The White House contradicted Wolff, calling him a “lying sack of s–t” and “a fraud.” However, speculation has been rampant since then, which is probably why Eric Trump brought it up in an interview now.

Speculation about famous couples is rather normal. Even in politics. It happened to the Obamas fairly regularly. It even happens to them now, and they’ve been out of the White House for a while. If they’re not seen in public together for two weeks, people think they’re getting a divorce. And royal couples—from Kate Middleton and Prince William, to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are no longer working royal can attest that this is pretty much the name of the game. Being a couple in the spotlight means speculation about the state of your marriage. For better or worse.

That probably doesn’t mean anyone’s trying to get the Trumps, or any other couple, separated. It’s just a normal byproduct of life in the spotlight. And whether a marriage can get through that or not is up to the people in the marriage, no one else.
