Hollywood truly moves fast. When Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s separation was first announced, it was reportedly that. A separation. There were even suggestions that the two could still find a way to fix things. And then, just a few hours after the first reports, came the shocking truth. Nicole Kidman had filed for divorce. The marriage was over. But it escalated pretty soon after that, with rumors that Urban was already dating someone else.

Now, a recent Urban performance has resurfaced that points to, if not that, at least the fact that the singer was mentally checked out a while ago. The clip, shared on Instagram by rising country star, Maggie Baugh, sees the singer change a lyric from a song the two are performing together. The song by Urban originally featured Carrie Underwood.

It might not be a big deal, it wasn’t that the song was originally written about Nicole Kidman.

In the song, titled ‘The Fighter’, Urban originally signs, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” but the version shared has Urban singing, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player” by Urban. In the video shared on social media, Baugh added two emojis over the video: “🫣 🤯.”

“Did he just say that👀,” she captioned the clip. The video was posted on Saturday, September 26, before news of Urban and Kidman’s split broke. Neither Urban nor Baugh have commented on the video or the links it might have had to the couple’s split. But the timing is indeed suspect, particularly considering Kidman’s filing for the divorce and the comments about the couple’s split that came out as soon as it was announced.

Urban had previously spoken about this particular song’s inspiration.

“It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her,” Urban told Billboard in 2017. “The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways,” he explained, speaking also about Kidman’s “tenderness.”

“I want that tenderness to not have to get hardened to the world,” he said. “That’s my job as her husband, to put myself around her so she can remain that way. And that’s really the chorus of The Fighter.

Pretty ironic to change that now, as he is the reason that tenderness is getting hardened to the world.

Kidman filed for divorce on Tuesday, Sept. 30 in Nashville. She listed the date of separation as the day of the filing and gave reconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

People reported from a source in that the country singer has “just been going through some stuff” lately. “He has been making questionable choices for some time now and this was not the case of them just drifting apart,” added a source close to Kidman.

The couple, who married in 2006, share two children, Sunday Rose who is 17 and Faith Margaret, who is 14.
