The relationship between King Charles and Queen Camilla has always been very interesting to people, ever since the two first met and started their romance. The interest never died down, particularly during the time the King was married to Princess Diana. And now that the two are married to each other, people haven’t stopped being interested in how they’re doing.
In public, it seems like the couple is doing just fine. But new reports indicate things are not as great as they seem. Or at least, that the couple still has some disagreements. According to RadarOnline.com, the Queen’s request to add a library to Buckingham Palace as part of its $499 million renovation is “irritating him beyond belief.” Buckingham Palace contains 775 rooms but has not had a library since King George IV donated the King’s Library to the British Museum in the early 19th century.

For the Queen, not adding a library is “unthinkable.” Reports, however, indicate that King Charles doesn’t see it that way. An insider told the outlet, “Books and reading have always been central to Camilla’s life, and she thinks it’s ridiculous that the monarch’s residence doesn’t include a library.”
The source also added, “She’s made it clear to Charles that this is her single, most important request. But he finds it frustrating. The size and expense of the renovation are already weighing heavily on him, and her demand for an additional room drives him to distraction.”
Reports of this disagreement come after a source told Radar Online on September 12 that the couple are “divorced in everything but name” as the two lead “largely separate lives” to “keep up with appearances.” “They are putting on a united front in public, especially because Charles is ill, but behind the scenes it’s a very different picture,” the source said.
But the source also added that despite their unconventional marriage, which sees the two spend a great deal of time apart by their own decision, Queen Camilla is still supportive of King Charles amid his health issues. “They remain committed in their own way, but it’s not the kind of marriage most people would recognize,” the insider said. “Charles is absorbed in his health and responsibilities, while Camilla prioritizes her time at Ray Mill. At this point, it’s the crown that binds them – not the relationship itself.”
Reports of trouble in the relationship hit a high recently when the Queen didn’t accompany King Charles to his vacation residence in Balmoral Castle for his annual summer vacation. Instead, Camilla took a solo vacation aboard the $40 million superyacht Zenobia in the Mediterranean off the coast of Greece. This was reportedly not well received by the British royal family or by the public.
“Who knows how much time Charles has left, and she takes a high-profile vacation without him? Queen Elizabeth – who never particularly cared for Camilla – must be rolling over in her grave,” Radar Online’s source said, explaining that this was worse in the context of the reality that Charles is “dying.”
It seems like the library isn’t their only problem.
