At this point in time, it seems like whatever Meghan Markle does is a problem for the British royal family. She and Harry have not been working royals for years, but every time the Duchess of Sussex is in the news, there are new reports about how the royals are feeling about it, and those reports are rarely positive. This is pretty much the case now, once again.

What happened this time? Markle was in Paris for Fashion Week over the weekend to attend the Balenciaga Spring 2026 show. During her time there, Markle posted a video of her experience, including her in the car showing off the city, including the Pont Alexandre III and the Pont des Invalides bridges, both on the River Seine. In the video, she can be seen with her feet up on the seat in front of her.

Though she is not shown there, the direction she’s heading seems to point to her coming up on the Pont d’Alma bridge. This bridge is next to the Pont d’Alma tunnel, where Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed, and their driver Henri Paul died in a car crash in August 1997. And people have been sure to point it out, calling the video ‘insensitive’, taking into account the proximity and her casualness. And reports indicate William himself was also upset, even though the video doesn’t actually show Markle in the exact place, and it’s possible she didn’t even know how close to the spot she was.

Rob Shuter reported that the prince “saw the clip and went white with anger” and is now “livid beyond words.” That’s not all, “To him, it wasn’t just bad taste – it was personal desecration,” the source added. “That tunnel is sacred ground. For Meghan to treat it like a selfie moment was the ultimate insult.”

Yet another staffer told Shuter that William “said it was grotesque. He couldn’t believe she’d film herself near the very spot that destroyed his family.”

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams came to Markle’s defense, saying he doesn’t believe the Duchess intended to be disrespectful, but still said the whole thing made no sense. “I don’t understand what on earth she was thinking. No adviser would ever advise doing something so strange,” Mr Fitzwilliams told The Daily Mail. “She has every right to go to fashion events, but to share a video which had any connections with the tragic death of the Princess of Wales defies belief. She couldn’t possibly have intended to be disrespectful, but it’s another example of the Sussexes doing something that makes no sense at all.”

All of this comes as the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death comes closer, and her sons are reportedly not seeing eye to eye on how to honor her. Prince Harry is said to be developing a documentary to celebrate Princess Diana’s humanitarian legacy. But reports indicate William is not truly on board. “Harry’s been talking about marking the anniversary in a meaningful way – not just as a family moment, but as a public tribute to Diana’s work. He’s been hoping William might join him, but the tension over Meghan makes that almost impossible. William has made it clear that anything official connected to their mother can’t involve her,” a royal source told RadarOnline.com.

But there’s still hope. “Harry really believes it’s what his and William’s mother would have wanted – for them to come together, at least for something as important as this. He’s open to reconciliation, but it’s a delicate balance. He knows how raw things still are,” another source said.

There’s still time for a reconciliation. Whether that will actually materialize or not, however, is up in the air.
