It’s kind of normal to see people scrambling to figure out what’s next after a divorce. It’s, however, different when one of the parties reportedly has already moved on. That’s very much the case with Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, and what happens now after Kidman filed for divorce.
Kidman spoke about facing a new chapter during an interview conducted a little before she filed for divorce, saying, “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going,” she told Vogue about life in her 50s, “and then it isn’t going in that direction?”

The actress also spoke about making decisions for herself, like the one she made to not attend the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where she was awarded best actress, after the death of her mother. “Everyone was saying, ‘You’ve still got to go and accept the award,’” she recalled. “And I just sat for a minute and I went, ‘No, I can’t, I don’t, and I won’t.’”
“My sense of duty and of being a good girl is so strong,” she added. “At this age…I’m protecting myself when I need to. It’s my right—as Virginia Woolf used to say—it’s my right as a human being.”
Kidman hasn’t publicly commented on the divorce, and on her appearance on October 6 at Paris Fashion Week’s Chanel Womenswear Spring/Summer 2026 show, she only spoke about the event. Kidman attended with her two daughters.
The actress and Keith Urban got married in 2006 and have two children together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Kidman filed for divorce on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Nashville, where the couple has resided together since 2007. She listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
But there have been other rumors about why they called it quits and what has happened since. Reports, for example, indicate Urban has already moved on. “The rumor is that he’s with a younger woman in the business,” a “Nashville music industry source told Daily Mail. “It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”
And according to Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop, though Kidman wanted to work on the 19-year marriage and see if it could be saved, Urban wasn’t really interested. “Nicole wanted to fight for them, but Keith had already checked out—and she knew why. It wasn’t about distance, schedules, or bad habits. It was about another woman. And Nicole knows who she is.” Another insider added, “She’s not naïve. She heard the stories; she saw the signs. At some point, the truth becomes impossible to ignore. She’s not going to live as anyone’s second choice.”
A marriage where one party has already moved on isn’t a marriage that can be saved. But the good news for Kidman is that, even if she has yet to move on like her husband did, she’s got a lot to look forward to. And she won’t stop working. “Why do I keep working?” she said in Vogue. “Why stop? You’ll have to tie me down, tie me up!”
There’s no one who will.
