Malia Obama Accused of ‘Partying Too Much’ in Hollywood as Sources Plead With Barack’s Daughter to ‘Buckle Down’
Imagine having to hear rumors about your parents’ marriage every day. That’s what Sasha and Malia Obama have to put up with, as it seems like, since their parents left the White House, every day there has been a new question about the state of their marriage. And the fact that the two tend to joke about it probably doesn’t seem to help. Though at this point, their daughters are probably very used to it.
But Malia is also just living her life, separate from her famous parents. Going by Malia Ann now, she has been working in Hollywood for the past few years. However, new reports indicate she doesn’t fully fit in with the Hollywood life.

A source told RadarOnline that Malia Ann, who has been working in the entertainment industry since college, has gotten plenty of opportunities, but she isn’t taking advantage of all of them and is instead partying too much. “She loves living and working in Hollywood, but it’s the lifestyle she’s become enamored with, not the grind and the inevitable rejection that comes with a serious writing career,” the source said.
That, allegedly, includes a lot of shopping, spas and salons, and fancy restaurants, which has led some to suggest she has not “matured” yet. “It’s just sad that she’s taking so much longer to mature as an artist than anybody expected,” a source said, adding that, “She’s also met a lot of the industry’s biggest players. The problem is how much of her life she still devotes to partying and socializing, when now is the time she should be buckling down and showing people what she’s really capable of.”
However, the facts contradict these reports. The 27-year-old was a production assistant on the drama Extant and had a writing position in the series Swarm. She also directed a short film titled The Heart, which was showcased at the 2024 Sundance. Not too shabby. She was also nominated for the 2023 Chicago International Film Festival and won the Young Spirit Award at the Deauville Film Festival.
All of these reports about Malia come as her parents continue to be in the eye of the spotlight. Divorce rumors started up again after her father, Barack Obama, said on the final episode of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, as he was offering advice to the host after retiring.
“Just be a little brain-dead for a while. I read a bunch of books that had been stacked up,” the former President said, referring to what he did after leaving office. “I had a big deficit with my wife I had to kind of work my way out of, right? So, we went on a lot of trips and hung out and had nice dinners and slept in.”
Not that long ago, he’d made a similar comment about his marriage while at a Jefferson Educational Society event in Erie, Pennsylvania. “I have spent over eight years now trying to dig myself out of a hole with Michelle. And that’s been challenging, but I feel like I’m making progress. I’m almost breaking even at the moment.”
Michelle Obama has also joked about it on the podcast she co-hosts with her brother, titled IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson. “When we aren’t [in the same room], folks think we’re divorced,” she said at one point.
Jokes aside, it seems the Obamas are doing just fine, and that includes daughter Malia.
