It’s kinda normal to be protective of family. Particularly when so much of what your family does happens in the spotlight and everyone has opinions about every little thing. This is even true, and in some cases, especially true, when the anger is turned to someone you know well. It’s easier to hold those complicated feelings when you’re turning them on someone you know is probably not going to take it badly, anyway.
Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, recently spoke about a particular time that left him very angry with former President Barack Obama. Biden and Obama were, of course, very close, particularly when Biden was VP under Obama for two separate terms, and the two have continued to be on good terms in public.

In an interview for ABC News’ Jonathan Karl’s upcoming book Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America, Biden’s son revealed he wasn’t very pleased about Obama pulling Joe Biden off stage at a Hollywood fundraiser last year. The clip, which went viral, isn’t even that bad, as it shows Obama lightly taking Biden’s arm and guiding him towards the exit as Biden continues to wave to the audience. If anything, it speaks to how well the two know each other.
However, conservative pundits immediately turned it into a meme.
“I almost jumped up on the stage and said, ‘Don’t ever f–king do that to the president of the United States again—ever,’” Hunter Biden reportedly said, according to Axios. He went on to explain that his father has a habit of staying behind to greet supporters. “He was taking a minute to acknowledge the crowd,” he said. “I knew that that was going to be a meme. That really, really, really, really p—-d me off.”
According to the book, Hunter Biden’s anger lingered for months after the June 2024 event. Biden’s family has generally pushed back on any stories that painted Biden as too old for the job. Biden is now 82 years old, but he’s not that much older than US President Donald Trump, who is 79.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed the video at the time, saying, “They are cheap fakes. They are done in bad faith. And some of your news organizations have been very clear, have stressed that these right-wing… critics of the president have a credibility problem because the fact-checkers have repeatedly caught them pushing misinformation, disinformation,” she said.
The book, which chronicles the 2024 campaign and what happened after, is set to be released on October 28, 2025.
Hunter Biden was last in the spotlight after Melania Trump took offense to him claiming she and President Trump had met through his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 1998 during an interview, with lawyers for Trump demanding a full apology.
However, in a video posted to Andrew Callaghan’s YouTube—the man who conducted the original interview—Biden said, “F–k that. That’s not going to happen,” adding, “If they want to sit down for a deposition and clarify the nature of the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein — if the president and the first lady want to do that and all the known associates around them at the time, whatever time that they met, I’m more than happy to provide them the platform to be able to do it.”
