Royalty is a lot about hierarchy. Some people are just higher than others. And if you’re not high enough, you make sure not to do anything that could be seen as a contradiction to those who are closer to the top than you. Now, Princess Anne’s son-in-law Mike Tindall, is reportedly set to receive a “scolding” from his mother-in-law for a plan that goes against Prince William and Kate Middleton both.
Sounds perhaps a bit more dramatic than it is, but it’s still significant. Reportedly, Tindall has been making plans to launch a rugby union ‘break-away’ known as R360. It would be a worldwide league comprised of 12 franchises (eight men’s teams and four women’s) in a “Grand Prix-style format” held in cities worldwide.

The problem? Prince William is a patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, and Kate Middleton is a patron of the Rugby Football Union. That’s not all! It turns out Princess Anne is a patron for the Scottish Rugby Union, so that’s three senior royals that Tindall would be going against.
According to The Daily Mail, “They are threatening to ban players who sign potentially lucrative contracts from playing for their countries. Tindall, who earned 75 caps for England, is also taking on family big beasts who represent the status quo.” The outlet also reported that “In a ruck between the two, only a fool would bet against Anne.”
The relationship between Tindall and Princess Anne, and indeed, Tindall and the rest of the royal family, has always been great. “I can only say how kind they’ve been to me, and how welcoming they’ve been to me since joining the family and how they’ve made my family welcome,” Tindall has said. Not just that, Princess Anne, William and Kate have all appeared on Tindall’s rugby-themed podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.
Tindall, a former professional rugby player, played for Bath and Gloucester and achieved 75 caps for the national team.
All of these comes after RadarOnline.com recently reported that Prince George, Prince William’s oldest son, was devastated after his uncle Harry moved to the United States, and Mike Tindall has stepped in as the “fun uncle.”
“George was very fond of Harry and really felt it when he went. Harry was the uncle who got down on the carpet, played around, and always made him laugh,” one family source said. “His departure left a noticeable hole in George’s life, and it was clear the family needed someone else to take on that role.”
Another courtier explained, “Mike has taken on the role in a way few anticipated. He’s obviously devoted to his own children, but he’s also carved out time for William and Kate’s kids.”
With the families as close as they are and Tindall in that role for Prince George, one would think any issues such as this one could and would be handled between the adults. It is, after all, in the grand scheme of things, not the kind of thing one needs to start a feud over.
