Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have always been in the eye of the spotlight. Ever since the two announced their engagement, and throughout the whole saga of their wedding, being working royals, stepping down as working royals, and then moving to the United States, people have been interested in them. And that interest has extended to their children.
But the couple rarely posts pictures of their children, so how Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet look these days is anyone’s guess. Or at least, it was. Because their faces are more or less visible in an Instagram Reel that showed Harry carving a jack-o’-lantern from start to finish for Halloween. The video, which was sped up, showed both Archie and Lilibet in the background playing.

The video, which was taken in the family’s backyard in their Montecito, California home, was too fast to really make out their features. So, no harm, no foul, right? Wrong, because despite the fact that the kids were blurry in the background, Markle went on to delete the video soon after, likely after realizing that her kids’ features could be seen.
Some claim the move was too closely timed with the launch of Markle’s As Ever holiday collection to be a mistake, with fans on social media calling it “convenient,” but since the kids’ faces have never really been seen, this all tracks with previous behavior by both Meghan and Harry.
Discussions about the kids’ presence on social media aren’t new. Markle has previously posted photos of them, and of the entire family together, making sure to always cover their faces. And not so long ago, when she posted a photo of them on the set of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, there was speculation that Prince Harry wouldn’t like that, considering his desire for privacy.
Back then, royal expert Hugo Vickers told The Sun that Meghan posting a glimpse of their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, might have upset Harry. “He [Prince Harry] ought to be extremely annoyed. Obviously, I don’t know what he thinks, but I think he does what he’s told, probably,” he said. “You know, what worries me much more, to be quite honest, is what the children themselves are going to think when they get a little bit older and they realise how they’ve been exploited.”
This came after previous reports that Harry was adamant about protecting the couple’s children. A source told PEOPLE: “Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats. He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm.”
Not that long ago, RadarOnline.com reported that Markle and Prince Harry weren’t really seeing eye to eye on things: “Meghan‘s always been the one calling the shots, but lately Harry’s stopped just going along with everything. He’s started pushing back, speaking up when something doesn’t sit right with him,” the source said.
If you put all of that together, there might be a reason to believe Prince Harry could be upset about their kids’ faces being somewhat visible. Considering he was part of the video, though, and he likely didn’t realize—as much as Markle—that their kids were in the background, and that the video was deleted soon after, we can probably just assume that this is just two parents being extra cautious about their kids.
