There have always been reports that Queen Camilla’s relationship with her stepsons isn’t that good. It’s easy to see why, as many have accused King Charles and Queen Camilla of sustaining an affair for most of the time the king was married to Princess Diana. That’s the kind of thing that’s bound to affect your kids, especially because William and Harry were young while all of this was going on, and their mother died. But has the relationship improved? And what about Camilla’s other family?
Tom Parker Bowles, Queen Camilla’s son and Prince William‘s step-brother, recently appeared on the Good Food Podcast (via The Telegraph) and briefly joked about what would happen if he was given a title. “I tell you, that would be the quickest way to revolution,” he said. “I think we’re a fairly balanced and sober and sensible country on the whole. But if I suddenly became prince, I think that Buckingham Palace gates would be stormed.”

It wasn’t all. Parker Bowles also confirmed he’d touched the Crown Jewels at the coronation. “They had some of the Crown Jewels, because the King and my mother had to practice carrying [them]… and it was just, I think it was the sceptre, or the diadem, I can’t remember. Anyway, just to hold it briefly was – you’re holding history, you’re holding 800 or 900 years of history, it’s incredible.”
He had nothing but good things to say about his stepfather, King Charles, calling him a “fountain of knowledge” and a “hero of British farmers.” And though he didn’t say anything specific about Prince William or Prince Harry, he also spoke about his mother and what it was like growing up with her. “She’s a great cook, a natural cook, and there weren’t many spices… it was very, very traditional. I grew up in Wiltshire in the ’70s and early ’80s. We’d have English food,” he shared.
Overall, seems like the relationship is at least cordial enough.
But will it continue? Recent reports indicate there’s been some friction between Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton, which could end up affecting the relationship between other people in their orbit. And it reportedly has already made William’s already shaky relationship with Camilla even worse.
Examiner reported that the two aren’t getting along. “Camilla has been extremely kind and supportive towards Kate throughout her recent struggles, but she’s territorial by nature as well as prickly,” a source said. “It annoys her to no end there’s this narrative that the Waleses can do no wrong and that Kate can swan around whenever she feels like it, waving her magic wand and taking a self appointed bow as the most popular member of the monarchy.”
It all reportedly came to a head during President Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK. “From Kate’s point of view, Camilla needs to calm down and stop being so brittle and annoying,” the source added. “The way she behaved in front of everyone [pushing Kate away and snapping] was uncalled for, and it raised William’s hackles, too. His relationship with his stepmother has really evolved since those difficult early years, but the fact she’s now disrespecting his wife is putting it to the test again, big time.”
Nothing specific about Tom Parker Bowles, but if the relationship the rest of the British royal family outside of Charles has with her isn’t all that positive, we can’t expect him to be anyone’s favorite.
