When Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott divorced and went their separate ways, Bezos’ life didn’t change all that much. Mackenzie Scott‘s presumably didn’t either, but her focus did. Bezos went on to marry journalist Lauren Sánchez, and Scott focused on her charitable endeavors, vowing to donate most of her money in life. And she has absolutely kept that promise.
Her latest donation is to Howard University, as Scott continues her commitment to advance racial equity by supporting historically Black colleges and universities across the United States. The $80 million donation is one of the largest in the school’s 158-year history.

Wayne A.I. Frederick, Howard interim president and president emeritus, said in a statement, “This historic investment will not only help maintain our current momentum, but will help support essential student aid, advance infrastructure improvements, and build a reserve fund to further sustain operational continuity, student success, academic excellence, and research innovation.”
Scott recently donated $42 million to 10,000 Degrees, a Bay Area nonprofit that helps low-income and minority students access higher education. She also donated $70 million to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), which strengthens endowments across 73 historically Black colleges and universities, and donated $640 million to 361 community-led nonprofits. All of these donations were made in 2025.
This comes as Scott has slashed her stake in Amazon by about 42%, or $12.6 billion, over the past year. Despite how much that is, she still owns a fair bit of stake in the company her ex-husband founded, about 81.1 million shares, down 58 million from this time last year, according to Bloomberg.
She has reportedly donated over 19 billion dollars since her 2019 divorce from Bezos, and her net worth is reported to be around $32.5 billion, according to Forbes. Her ex-husband, Bezos, still owns around 9% of the company he founded in 1994, and his net worth is $230.2 billion.
All of this comes while Bezos and his new wife are involved in a legal battle with her estranged brother, Michael Sánchez. Page Six reported that their legal team filed a motion in California Superior Court demanding that Michael Sánchez pay $182,374 in attorney’s fees and $8,182 in legal costs, “incurred in connection with (1) her successful Special Motion to Strike, and (2) this Motion for Attorney’s Fees and Costs.”
This all has to do with reports of an affair between Bezos and Sánchez, which first surfaced while she was still married to Patrick Whitesell. X-rated photos from their private texts were leaked and pinned on Sanchez’s brother. Michael Sánchez denied this and sued for defamation. The Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in Bezos’s favor. He then asked for legal fees to be covered by Sánchez.
