King Charles made a rare comment about his health amid his cancer diagnosis. While meeting with veterans, the monarch joked about dying and the arm procedures that he had.
At Chatfield Health Care in London on Nov. 5, 2025, Charles had the opportunity to talk to veterans about the treatment they had there. One person named David Wiggins described his procedures when he broke his wrist and elbow after falling off his bike and needed to get metal plates in arm. “Are they keeping that under control? I’m so glad,” The King replied, via Hello!. “I’ve got endless plates and screws in my arm as well. All that’s left of you when you drop dead is ‘Made in Switzerland.'”
King Charles’ plates and screws were placed in his arm after he fell during a polo match in 1990. According to the site, he underwent a three-hour-long operation, which resulted in a weeklong hospital stay. In 2000, the King also fractured a bone in his shoulder when he fell off a horse during a fox hunt.
While having tea with Wiggins, Charles commended Chatfield’s treatment and recovery rate. “I’m so glad, I hadn’t realised there was this marvellous effort in specialising with veterans in GP practices which is clearly making a big difference,” Charles said.
The King’s comment comes after reports of a drastic change to his health amid his cancer diagnosis, and ultimately, a funeral. “The palace is desperately trying to downplay the seriousness of His Majesty’s illness,” an insider revealed to RadarOnline. “But Charles knows it’s the end, and so do his sons. William is formally making plans for his version of the future of the monarchy – with or without Charles’ blessing – and making his own decisions as king.”
Rob Shuter’s Substack ShuterScoop also reported that the King was “dying” and that his health issues have even forced Prince William to take on more royal duties. According to sources, Charles is “seriously unwell but determined to carry on,” and, “He’s exhausted, but he won’t stop. Every morning he insists on reading his red boxes. He believes his service to the country is his calling — and he’ll keep going as long as he can.”
