Princess Eugenie and Princess Eugenie might be one step closer to being cut off from the royal family. King Charles is reportedly cracking down on royal family housing arrangements and ordering non-working royals to fund their own lifestyles.

Royal biographer Robert Johnson reported to The Mail on Sunday that the King has made it clear that his nieces will need to “stand on their own two feet and pay their own way” as part of a wider review of Crown-funded housing arrangements.

The daughters of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah Ferguson have reportedly benefited from “subsidised accommodation” provided by the Crown. While the two aren’t working royals, the two have full-time employment. Eugenie works at Hauser & Wirth in London as an art director, while Beatrice works as the Vice-President of Partnerships and Strategy at Afiniti.

Despite not living in London full-time, the two have reportedly enjoyed their privileges as royal family members. “Indeed, several members of the extended Royal Family have continued to enjoy subsidised accommodation, with some allowing their apartments to be used by their children as London pads,” Johnson told The Mail.

The monarch is reportedly trying to reclaim royal residences after Harry and Meghan were evicted from Frogmore Cottage.”The message is clear: no freeloaders in the modern monarchy,” Johnson said.

The news comes after People reported from sources that the fallout will still have a “devastating effect” on the two. Ailsa Anderson, a former press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth told the outlet, “Even though they keep their titles, the ripple effect will have consequences for the rest of their lives.”

Royal expert Christopher Wilson recently told the Daily Mail the status of the princesses had been “tarnished” as a result of their parents’ recent loss of titles and the scandal of their connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the fallout could end up costing them. “The princesses use their titles to earn money – and if that starts to dry up as a result of their father’s disgrace, they may be tempted to follow their mother Fergie’s example of accepting more and more low-grade offers to use their face and name in order to rake in the cash.”
