Ever since the scandal surrounding the former Prince Andrew culminated in him being stripped of his titles and being asked to leave Royal Lodge, there have been a lot of questions about what this means for the specific relationships between the royal family. Will Andrew and ex-wife Fergie still live together? Does he still get along with his daughters? What about his siblings?
Princess Anne commented on her brother during a royal tour to Australia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Australian Signal Corps. It’s just that she didn’t know which brother the person was talking about at first. At a party, the president of the Royal Australian Regiment Association (RARA), James Thorpe, told the Princess Royal that he’d met her brother, to which Anne replied, “Which one? I have three.”

“Ah, that’s the main one, Ma’am,” Thorpe replied, to which Princess Anne just laughed.
It makes sense that Princess Anne would want to avoid any Andrew questions because the scandal about Andrew’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has only kept escalating, and there are reports that more could still come out, and Andrew could even face jail time for it. Prince William also avoided any Andrew questions during his trip to Brazil for the Earthshot Prize.
As one of King Charles’ closest advisors, Princess Anne likely knows how bad the scandal is and was involved in the decision to basically banish Andrew. It’s damage control for the royal family, who basically want to separate themselves from Andrew as much as possible, particularly if more is coming.
However, royal expert and author Christopher Andersen said that Princess Anne wasn’t on Andrew’s side. “She is as fed up with Andrew as Charles and William are,” Andersen told Us Weekly, explaining that the Princess Royal has “long sided with the King.”
Not that long ago, Radar Online reported that Andrew was put off by his older sister’s positive reputation. “Anne represents everything the monarchy is supposed to stand for – hard work and respect. For Andrew, who has lost all of that, it’s a bitter pill to swallow,” an insider said.
RadarOnline.com also reported about Andrew and Anne’s relationship, “Anne never plays at deference, and people respect her for that. Andrew does the opposite and ends up ridiculed,” an insider shared, with another source adding, “Anne doesn’t see leisure as important – she simply keeps working without fuss.”
“What stings Andrew is knowing Anne is praised as the family’s most respected royal, while his name is tied only to disgrace. It eats away at him,” the report also said.
Ironically, this is something Andrew has brought on himself. However, this reality doesn’t mean his siblings wish him ill. The Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential last week quoted royal expert Richard Kay saying, “I think they’ve [Anne and Edward] been concerned about their brother’s wellbeing and how he’s handling this intense pressure.”
“His reputation is in the gutter. I think both Anne and Edward have been concerned about how the King handles the whole situation and story. I think they feel there’s a duty of care towards Prince Andrew.”
So, basically, it’s complicated.
