Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor might be leaving the royal life behind, but he still wants a life of luxury. Multiple reports say that his transition into a normal life has a hefty price.
After being kicked out of his longterm home of the Royal Lodge with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, Andrew “is insisting…on an appropriate home and a rota of staff fit for the son—however debased—of a queen and the father of two royal princesses.” He’s set to live at Sandringham in Norfolk, England where his housing will be funded by his brother King Charles.
The Daily Mail reports that: “Disgraced Andrew, it is understood, is playing hardball” by requesting a private “cook, a housekeeper, and a secretary-cum-butler, plus gardeners.” In addition, he “wants the right to roam, rather than being confined to quarters.” However, “Andrew is banned from riding in the grounds of Windsor Castle,” allegedly to keep him out of the public eye.
As a source told the outlet, “Andrew will certainly go quietly and allow the Royal Family to save face…but he has conditions and he isn’t prepared to give much ground on them.” They continued, “There is the question of future-proofing any deal…There is also the question of long-term funding and housing.”
It’s also reported that “Andrew wants guarantees” that he will receive the same amount of royal funding once William is king. However, it might not line up with the Prince of Wales’ values.
The demands comes after reports from RadarOnline says that Andrew is spiraling about his move. “He spends hours pacing around the lodge, muttering to himself and rehashing old grievances, blaming everyone he thinks has turned on him. It’s as if he’s trapped in his own little bubble.”
“He hardly ever steps outside anymore and has completely shut himself off,” they claimed. “The only times he and Sarah cross paths are at meals, and even then, it’s strained. She’s genuinely frightened about how he’ll cope when he has to leave.”
The staff in return are also not so pleased with his behavior. “He’s convinced the whole world is against him – the King, the public, even the Americans. The muttering, the pacing, the sleepless nights – it’s all escalating. Those around him are genuinely afraid he’s coming apart,” a source says. “He is not liked among the staff, but none of them want to see him wandering the halls of the Lodge like some schizoid madman.”
