Ever since Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer, there has been a heightened awareness of her health and what she’s doing at all times. Even after the Princess of Wales announced earlier this year that she was in remission, the return to public duties was slow and gradual, and it seems like these days, she just doesn’t take on as many public commitments as she did before—and certainly not as many as other royals.
This has left people asking the question ‘where is Kate Middleton?’ more often than not, about many events. This time, the question was being asked about the Diplomatic Reception at Windsor Castle, which took place on November 18. King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted, accompanied by Prince William.

Middleton attended the Future Workforce Summit in London earlier in the day. The summit was organized by The Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood from her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, with Middleton there to deliver a speech. With her reduced royal load since her cancer treatment, this is likely the reason why she skipped the reception later in the day.
The Princess of Wales wasn’t present at the Diplomatic Reception last year, either. The reception recognizes the members of the Diplomatic Corps in London, allowing the royal family to meet with the representatives of all countries accredited to the Court of St. James.
All of this comes after RadarOnline.com recently reported that Middleton feels “physically and emotionally drained” by the stress of the Andrew drama. “Kate feels sick to her stomach that it’s happening all over again. After everything she’s been through, she just wants peace, stability, and to protect her children. The stress of it all couldn’t come at a worse time,” sources told the outlet.
“She’s concentrating on her recovery, body and mind,” said another insider. “That’s why all the upheaval around Andrew feels unbearable to her. She’s doing her best to stay centered for her children and William, but this constant drama makes it incredibly hard.”
This could be the reason we didn’t see her at the Diplomatic reception, and she hasn’t been as present as she used to be in the years before she was first diagnosed with cancer. Another source recently spoke to RadarOnline.com about Middleton’s perspective ever since her diagnosis. “Kate understands now that life’s too short to keep agreeing to every demand. Her cancer battle really shifted her perspective.”
The source added, “She wants to put her family, her well-being, and her peace of mind first. It’s not rebellion for the sake of drama—it’s about setting her own rhythm, even if that means quietly resisting royal expectations.”
And that, reportedly, comes with fewer engagements. “She’s finally learned the power of saying no. Before her illness, she felt a huge responsibility to shoulder the demands of royal life with William. Now, she understands she can serve without losing herself in the process.”
Whether that changes when William ascends to the throne, we will have to wait and see, but for now, it seems like we will have to get used to fewer appearances from the Princess of Wales.
