The drama surrounding the former Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, has not just affected them, but their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. And by extension, their families. And though Andrew and Fergie are undoubtedly responsible for their own actions and should pay for them, their daughters, who did not engage in the same conduct as them, have found themselves in the middle of the scandal.

What does Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, think about this scandal that has affected his family? Well, according to the Daily Mail, Princess Beatrice’s husband, who is a property developer, was planning to step in and help Andrew renovate Royal Lodge before he was evicted.

According to the outlet, Andrew was in the process of planning a Royal Lodge “makeover” according to his son-in-law’s design advice. Mapelli Mozzi “was seen visiting the royal residence at Great Windsor Park in Berkshire several times last November,” presumably because of this.

This will not come to pass, as Andrew is set to relocate to a much smaller house in Sandringham, which his brother King Charles will pay for. And the couple? Well, they’re keeping a low profile amid the scandal. But earlier reports had indicated that the change in circumstances for Andrew had hit the family hard.

Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop reported in October that Beatrice took the loss of his father’s titles poorly, with a friend saying, “Beatrice sobbed. She’s terrified of losing access, influence… everything she was born into.”

According to the gossip columnist, there were “late-night family crisis meetings, frantic calls to advisers, and conflicting guidance from aides who don’t know how far William will go.” Perhaps this is why there have been recent rumors that Eugenie, and maybe even Beatrice, have considered a move to the United States, or at least spending a lot more time near Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Recently, the sisters were seen in public for the first time since Andrew was stripped of his titles. According to a lip reader, Nicola Hickling, who spoke to the Daily Mail, the two were having an emotional conversation related to their current situation.

Hickling says Beatrice had a “hopeless” warning for her younger sister, “We’re in this together, don’t forget that,” and “it’s going to get harder”, along with “we can’t do anything” and “it’s a really anxious time.” Eugenie then reportedly replied with: “Everything is changing.”

But was it staged? Some people certainly think so. Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop reported from sources that “the public display was anything but spontaneous,” with one insider saying, “I think they knew exactly what they were doing. They’re rebranding as survivors—victims of their parents’ scandals, not participants.”

For now, the public perception is still very much on Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s side. And that bodes well for their husbands, as well. But considering how fickle these things can be, perhaps we might see them decide that going far away, at least for a while, makes the most sense.
