Divorce is always hard, especially after a couple has been together for many years. And one of the hardest parts of it always comes when a couple has kids, particularly kids that are old enough to understand what’s happening and the headlines around it when the two people involved are celebrities. This has been the case for Nicole Kidman and  Keith Urban.

Now, Kidman is opening up about how her daughters are dealing with such a complicated time. Speaking with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine, Kidman addressed the pressures that come with fame, advising Grande, “Well, you’re very young, and then suddenly you’re put into this fishbowl and everything is dissected. It starts to get very, very difficult, and then you overthink it and then you get scared and then you get hurt, and then you go, ‘Now I don’t want to go out. I don’t want to venture into this world.’ I get it.”

Having Grande in front of her seemed to make Kidman reflect on what this means for younger generations, even noting that there is “a constant push-pull” that “exists for everyone.”

“I’m raising teenage girls right now, and it’s fascinating. I think they have an armor that we didn’t get,” she shared, adding, “or that I certainly didn’t get, because there was no social media. The very, very young now have already gone, ‘We know exactly how to handle this.'”

Kidman went on to add, “They don’t take a lot of things personally. They shrug it off.”

This is probably a good quality to have, particularly since recent reports about their parents’ divorce have indicated Urban has already moved on. “The rumor is that he’s with a younger woman in the business,” a Nashville music industry source told Daily Mail. “It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”

Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop recently reported that Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, are standing by their mother. “They love their dad, but Nicole’s been the constant,” one insider said. “She’s been there for every school event, every bedtime. Keith’s been touring, filming — gone.”

It isn’t just about being there, but about temperament, with Urban reportedly having a “fiery temper” unlike Kidman. “The girls have seen who held it all together,” the source explained. “They feel safest with Nicole.” And Kidman has been very focused on her family life since the split. “She’s turning their home into a sanctuary,” a family friend said. “There’s yoga, journaling, family dinners — all about healing.”

Then there’s the fact that, according to Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop, Urban was the one who ended the marriage. “Nicole wanted to fight for them, but Keith had already checked out—and she knew why. It wasn’t about distance, schedules, or bad habits. It was about another woman. And Nicole knows who she is.” Another insider told the journalist, “She’s not naïve. She heard the stories; she saw the signs. At some point, the truth becomes impossible to ignore. She’s not going to live as anyone’s second choice.”

And clearly, Kidman’s daughters are on the same page.
