Kate Middleton is taking lots of pleasure in her favorite pastime after her cancer treatment. The Princess of Wales has been open about her affinity for cold swimming, but Prince William is still getting used to the extreme hobby.
On The Good, The Bad, and the Rugby podcast in 2023, Kate delved into her love of the activity even while diving into icy lakes and seas, in darkness or poor weather. She joked that William had initially called the idea insane, but he’s gradually warmed up to it after a couple of attempts. He admitted “you feel great afterwards” and said: “I love it. I do a lot of yelling and screaming when I get in.”
Now, Kate’s taking more time to do her favorite activities in the aftermath of her cancer treatment. “William has come around to seeing that Catherine’s regimen isn’t just about pushing limits,” a source told Radar Online. “She genuinely believes the cold jolt helps the body handle both mental and physical strain, and he wanted to be part of something that clearly supports her.”
William had talked to cold water swimmers of the Colwyn Bay Blue Tits in Scotland about the activity. He reportedly takes time in the country to participate in the activity whenever he can. “He mentioned he had begun giving it a try and was taken aback by how invigorating it was,” an onlooker recalled. “He joked that he still shouts his way into the water, but he also said the after-effects were remarkable.”
Cold plunging and swimming have been proven to have lots of health benefits. Kaiser Permanente reports that a cold plunge can cause “the release of endorphins that help boost your mood, as well as noradrenaline, a neurotransmitter and hormone that helps improve mental focus and alertness.” For Kate, she “sincerely believes these bracing cold dips help steady her nervous system.”
A source said that the activity affects their family outlook. “When she urged William to try it, it wasn’t merely about fitness but about building resilience,” the source said. “She felt it could offer him a way to manage stress during an especially challenging time for their family.”
The reports come after Kate is still “struggling” after her cancer treatment. “Behind closed doors, she’s still struggling emotionally and tires a lot more easily,” a source previously told Radar Online. “It’s taking longer to readjust to royal life after her cancer treatment. She’s still not back to where she was before her diagnosis.”
Kate is in the midst of preparations for her annual Together at Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey which she’s hosted since 2021. Though it might be one coping mechanism, surely enough, the Princess is taking it one day at a time.
