Justin Trudeau Accused of Dating Katy Perry For ‘Celebrity Status’ After His Ex-Wife Confessed She Was ‘Triggered’ by Their ‘Public’ Romance
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are both big names. But they’re not at the same level of celebrity. If you’re a political junkie, you know Trudeau. If you are…well, even marginally knowledgeable about pop culture, you know Katy Perry. You might know her even if you aren’t, if we’re being honest. So the fact that the two are dating is, in many ways, a meeting of two worlds. But one that might raise Trudeau’s profile.
Now, Star magazine is reporting that this very fact is concerning Katy’s friends. “People have been fascinated with Katy for years, and they’re always going to be curious about what she does next,” a source told the outlet. “Not so with Justin. He’s a nepo baby who flamed out in his political career and doesn’t have much of a path forward without his celebrity status.”

Trudeau resigned in January amid low approval ratings and pressure from his own party.
“Dating Katy has made him more famous, in a positive way, and he doesn’t want this trend to stop,” the source added. “It’s absolutely key to his survival as a public figure,” the source says. Despite this narrative, Trudeau and Perry haven’t been seen together all that often, and months elapsed since they were first seen having dinner to when they finally stepped out together as a couple.
“Justin needs this relationship way more than Katy does and everybody around her knows that,” the source added. “Katy doesn’t want or need any more of that stuff, but it’s Justin’s lifeblood and the only thing that’s keeping him relevant.”
Ironically, during the few months Perry and Trudeau weren’t seen together, the reports indicated the relationship had cooled off because he wasn’t comfortable dating someone of such a high profile and visibility, as he preferred to fade into the background. Quite the departure from this report.
The reality might be somewhere down the middle, but whatever the truth is, Perry and Trudeau seem to be doing just fine. In fact, they were recently said to be planning their holidays together.
People reports that Perry and Trudeau are spending time together “when they can.” “Justin keeps making a big effort to see her, and she’s excited about it,” a source said, adding that Perry “has a lot of fun with him” and their relationship is “exactly what she needs right now.”
Trudeau’s ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire, recently spoke about her ex’s new romance and how she was adjusting to the attention that came with it on the podcast “Arlene is Alone,” saying, “You know, we’re human beings and stuff affects us. Normal,” adding, “How you react to stuff is your decision. So, I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.”
She also addressed the visibility of the relationship, explaining that she’s “very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers.” But, “what I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.”
