What is the relationship between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle these days? At this point, no one really knows. One day, there are reports of a feud, the next day, there Markle is trying to reconnect with Middleton to make it easier for Harry and William to reconcile, then we’re back to a supposed feud, and so on. It’s hard to tell how much is speculation and how much is just untrue. But the reports continue.

The latest comes from RadarOnline.com, which reports that Markle’s latest venture is a “sly dig,” at Middleton. It all comes after Markle unveiled a Christmas gift set consisting of two jars of honey sold with a black leather bookmark, which will be available exclusively at Godmothers, a Montecito bookstore owned by her friends Victoria Jackson and Jennifer Rudolph Walsh.

In the announcement, the bookmark appears inside a book titled The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy. The page the bookmark is sitting on features the quote: “Always remember you matter, you’re important and you are loved and you bring to this world things no one else can.”

What does this have to do with Middleton? Well, last year, Mackesy worked with the Princess of Wales, creating bespoke illustrations for the order of service for her annual carol concert. That’s it. That’s all the connection there is. But for some people, that’s enough.

One insider told the outlet that the book choice was “very deliberate,” adding, “Everyone knows Meghan knew precisely what she was signaling. Featuring Mackesy’s book looks like a deliberate reference to Catherine’s carol service. It comes across as another quiet jab – another carefully placed dig.”

“Meghan is intensely focused on her brand and on eclipsing Catherine during the holidays. Some believe she’s trying to pull the spotlight straight out of her hands.”

Markle’s new holiday special episode of her lifestyle series for Netflix, titled, With Love, Meghan, is now available on the streamer, and there are no references to Middleton in it. But even the existence of the special has caused problems, with Markle accused of deliberately releasing a trailer for her series moments before Prince William and Kate Middleton appeared at the Royal Variety performance in London just a couple of weeks ago.

Of course, all of this makes no sense as Marke has no control over when trailers are released, Netflix does. Plus, she likely had no idea of when and where Prince William and Kate Middleton would be making an appearance.

Despite this, a source told the outlet, “This is by far Meghan’s first big swing at trying to eclipse Catherine’s Christmas moment. Everyone sees what she’s doing.”

Middleton’s Together at Christmas concert is set to be held on December 5 at Westminster Abbey and filmed for broadcast on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

“Combining traditional and modern elements to unite people of different faiths and none, the ceremony will see the world-renowned Westminster Abbey Choir perform some of the country’s best-loved carols, accompanied by musical performances and readings by invited guests,” the Palace said about the event in a press release.
