Meghan’s Dad Undergoes ‘Life or Death’ Surgery as Her Family Questions if She Would Even Attend His Funeral—Her Father Was ‘Dying’

Meghan Markle‘s father had his leg amputated after a very big health scare. The photographer was reportedly hospitalized on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and underwent a procedure that was considered a matter of “life or death.”
Thomas Markle’s son, Thomas Jr., reported on his father’s health condition after he was confined to a hospital in Cebu, Philippines after a blood clot affected his leg. “My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated,” Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail.
Doctors reportedly told his family that he would have died without the procedure. “There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death,” his son said. “One of his doctors said the next two or three days are critical. His left leg has been removed below the knee. They were worried about infection setting in – sepsis or gangrene. The flesh was black and dying.”
Thomas and Thomas Jr. moved to the Philippines earlier this year after living in Mexico. Just two months ago, the two recounted their experiences during a devastating earthquake that led them to be “trapped in their apartment. “If we die tonight, do you think Meghan will come to my funeral?” he asked the Daily Mail’s Caroline Graham. “Will I get a better funeral because my son-in-law is fifth in line to the throne?” he later joked.
Meghan Markle has not been in contact with her father since her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. However, her husband is reportedly urging her to contact him. Several sources told Rob Shuter’s Shuterscoop that Harry was inspired by his own forthcomings with King Charles and wants to impart that wisdom to his wife. “Harry knows estrangement,” one source said. “He made peace with his dad; now he wants Meghan to have the same chance. He’s been saying, ‘Don’t wait, do it now.’”
Another source added, “She needs to see how serious this is. This isn’t about headlines, it’s about family.” A different source divulged, “Thomas has been through strokes, heart attacks, and more — the man has survived Hollywood-level drama. But this time? It does not look good.”
Meghan’s last straw with her father emerged after he staged paparazzi photos before her wedding to Prince Harry. “I said, ‘I just need you to tell me and if you tell me the truth, we can help,’ and he wasn’t able to do that,” she told Oprah in the tell-all interview. “That, for me, has really resonated, especially now as a mother… I look at Archie, I think about this child [on the way], and I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child. I can’t imagine it. So it’s hard for me to reconcile that.”
