Prince Harry may see repercussions for his shade toward President Donald Trump. The Duke of Sussex seemingly took a jab at Trump during an episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on December 3.
“I genuinely thought this was the audition for the Gingerbread Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska,” Harry told Colbert as he walked on stage. Harry then joked that he wanted to pursue acting because he knew how “obsessed” Americans were with Christmas movies and royalty. After Colbert dismissed the claims, Harry then seemingly made a joke about Trump: “Really? I heard you elected a king,” which elicited boos from audience members.
“That’s a fair point, no, he’s got a point,” Colbert told the booing audience, to which Harry added, “And often making such a big deal about my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather George III,” referencing the king of Great Britain at the time of the American Revolution.
After the episode, Harry was accused of making a “reckless” joke toward Trump amid his estranged relationship with the British royal family, who recently had the president and his wife, Melania Trump, at Windsor for a state visit with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
“Harry’s jab at President Trump on Colbert wasn’t clever – it was reckless,” royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital. “Honestly, how does he think he can hold on to a royal title while taking public swipes at the head of a foreign government?”
She continued, “It’s also a slap in the face. Buckingham Palace put significant effort into a major state visit for President Trump to support diplomatic relations. And, frankly, it’s a slap to President Trump as well, considering he agreed to ease up on Harry’s immigration situation out of personal respect for King Charles.”
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich also disapproved of Harry’s joke toward Trump. “Harry did himself no favors,” she told Fox News Digital. “And to hear that decidedly left-leaning New York City audience boo him – he went from cheers and a standing ovation at first, to that. A few minutes’ summary, if you ask me, of his entire trajectory.” She continued, “His ghastly, self-defeating swipe at both President Trump and his own royal family signaled yet again his terrible judgment.”
She added, “While he still trades on his title, he attacks the monarchy and chronically misreads public mood on both sides of the Atlantic. Instead of healing the wounds he caused, he scratches them open – all while claiming to want to heal.”
Criticism toward Harry also comes after Radar Online reported that Harry, who moved to Montecito, California, with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, “lives in fear” of being “deported” by Trump back to his home in the United Kingdom. “He still lives in fear of what Trump might do – the possibility of being deported is something he can’t shake from his mind,” the insider said.
The source also claimed that Harry took Trump’s comment at his royal state dinner, referring to Prince William as a “remarkable son” to Charles, as a “deliberate snub” toward him.
“Harry definitely saw it as a deliberate snub. Seeing his family laughing along felt like a stab in the back. To him, it seemed as if they were cozying up to someone who has mocked him and Meghan for years,” the insider said.
