Rob Reiner‘s legacy is unmatched. The critically acclaimed actor and director was found dead in his home on Dec. 14 with his wife, Michele.
He first captured hearts in his role as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family and ventured into directing and producing with cult classic hits like The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, This Is Spinal Tap, and continued on with success with his company Castle Rock Entertainment where he directed When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men.
After their bodies were found, the Reiner family said in a statement to Variety, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Rob Reiner’s net worth at the time of his death was $200 million according to Celebrity Net Worth. His last film as a director, writer and actor was in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
Reiner still served as CEO of Castle Rock Entertainment while his wife Michelle served as co-president with Matthew George. In 2021, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the company would invest $175 million in their film division.
Rob Reiner’s will has not been made public. However, California’s Slayer Statute may deem that his son, Nick, cannot inherit anything from his will. If he is convicted of murder, he will be excluded from being appointed as an executor, trustee, guardian, conservator, or custodian of the estate. Rob Reiner has four children, Jake, Nick, and Romy with his wife Michele, and Tracy, his adoptive daughter from his marriage with Penny Marshall.
According to Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department records obtained by People, Nick was taken into custody and is being held on $4 million bail. Sources told the outlet that Rob and Michelle were found by their daughter Romy.
In an interview with The Guardian in 2024, Rob Reiner talked about supporting his children through the lens of a “nepo baby.” Rob Reiner was son to famous comedian and actress Estelle and Carl Reiner. “If you’re a nepo baby, doors will open,” he said. “But you have to deliver. If you don’t deliver, the door will close just as fast as it opened.”
“My son is 32 and my daughter’s 26,” he continued. “They both want careers, they’re both talented. Should I lean into it? Should I back away from it? They’re confused. I said, once they find their own path, it won’t matter. I was very conscious when I was carrying out my career that I didn’t rely on [my dad]. I didn’t ask him for money, and if you know in your heart that what you’re doing is true, you can block out all that stuff.”
