Justin Trudeau ‘Felt Inadequate’ Before His Relationship With Katy Perry Amid Reports He’s Using Her for ‘Celebrity Status’
It’s safe to say that, at this point, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have hard-launched their relationship. Instagram is, after all, what the celebrities use these days when they want to make it clear that their relationship is serious. And some days ago, Perry shared a carousel of images on her social media account, which included a photo of herself and the former Canadian Prime Minister. Perry was in Japan as part of her Lifetimes Tour.
Trudeau reportedly was really pleased with that, with Page Six reporting that the Canadian politician is loving the attention that comes with dating a celebrity like Perry. “Star f—king is very much the Trudeau brand,” a source told the publication. “I don’t think these things are hard to arrange when you’re in those circles.”

In fact, some sources went as far as to say that she provided an ego boost for Trudeau after he was pressured to resign earlier this year. “He felt inadequate,” the source said. Perry herself was also seen as needing some positive publicity after the Blue Origin space flight and her very public split from Orlando Bloom.
“When you are a big star or a politician, that gives you a variable. People either love you or hate you. The Blue Origin trip backfired for her from a PR and branding standpoint … [It] also put her in the political realm with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez,” a music industry source told Page Six. “That really complicates things.”
The same outlet had even reported earlier in the year that, “Fifteen years ago Katy Perry was red-hot.” a source said in April. “Now her name never comes across my desk. It happens to a lot of artists. They have their moment and it goes away. It seems like a very long time ago that she and Taylor were viewed as rivals on a similar playing field.”
But the outlet also reports the two are really in the relationship. “They’re cognizant about not going overboard. It’s not fake. Justin Trudeau – like him or don’t like him – Canadians are wonderful people. It’s for real. In today’s market having two people that have their feet in a political mess, it really complicates relationships,” the music insider said. “They’re sensitive.”
So, all in all, it seems like it’s been a very positive relationship for both Perry and Trudeau. Though honestly, at the level the two are in, they probably don’t and shouldn’t pay much attention to what tabloids say.
All of this comes after reports from Star that there’s concern from some that Trudeau likes the public side of the relationship a little too much. “People have been fascinated with Katy for years, and they’re always going to be curious about what she does next,” a source told said to the outlet. “Not so with Justin. He’s a nepo baby who flamed out in his political career and doesn’t have much of a path forward without his celebrity status.”
“Dating Katy has made him more famous, in a positive way, and he doesn’t want this trend to stop,” the source went on to add. “It’s absolutely key to his survival as a public figure,” the source says.
