There has been a lot of talk recently about King Charles’ health. In fact, ever since he was diagnosed, there has been a great deal of concern about what this means for the future of the monarchy. He was already the oldest monarch to ascend to the throne when he became king, and this has put the future of the British monarchy in a precarious place.
Now, Buckingham Palace has given an update on King Charles’s cancer right after the monarch’s Christmas address. In a statement shared with People, Buckingham Palace said that it is “delighted by the scale and sensitivity of the worldwide media reaction” to King Charles‘ recent speech, including “the many kind comments we have received for the King, both from those working in cancer care and from the general public.”

The statement also added that Charles “will be greatly encouraged and deeply touched by the very positive reaction his message has generated.”
“He will be particularly pleased at the way it has helped to shine a light on the benefits of cancer screening programs,” Buckingham Palace continued. “It has long been the King’s view that if some public good can come from sharing elements of his personal diagnosis and treatment journey, then it would be his pleasure and duty to do so. His thoughts and warmest wishes will remain with all those affected by cancer and those who care for them.”
It comes after the King appeared in Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer broadcast with a pre-recorded message on December 12, and spoke about his “overwhelming” cancer diagnosis and the importance of early detection. During the message, the King shared that his treatments will be “reduced” in 2026.
The message was recorded at Clarence House several weeks ago.
“Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year,” the King said.
He added, “This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years; testimony that I hope may give encouragement to the fifty percent of us who will be diagnosed with the illness at some point in our lives.”
Though the word remission has not been used, Buckingham Palace confirmed the King is doing better. He has reportedly been receiving weekly treatment since he announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024. “His Majesty has responded exceptionally well to treatment, and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase,” the spokesperson said. “This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritize his continued recovery.”
All very positive news for a King that, not so long ago, some had said was preparing for his last Christmas with his family. This might not be a promise for the future, but at least things seem to be looking up.
