The reality of the fact that King Charles has cancer and that he was already the oldest monarch to ascend to the throne back when he became king is weighing heavily on everyone as Christmas approaches. No one’s ready to say goodbye yet, but if everyone’s a little more cautious, that makes sense. Cancer is one of those things that makes us reevaluate our mortality.

Now, sources are telling RadarOnline.com that on the heels of Charles‘ meeting with his youngest son, Prince Harry, in September, he is now planning to invite him for Christmas, in what some are calling a chance at a full family reconciliation.

An insider said, “An invitation to Prince Harry has not been completely ruled out if the king truly wants to spend time with his immediate family. There has always been a sense that the emotional door was never fully closed.”

Reportedly, after such a difficult year, the King wants to spend time with his loved ones. “After such a turbulent year, particularly given the king’s health and the continuing repercussions from dealing with Prince Andrew, it is understandable that Charles would want this Christmas to carry deeper meaning,” the source added. “And despite his positive cancer updates, he knows if things take a turn for the worse, it could be his last Christmas.”

Courtiers are even saying that the king is very obviously acting emotionally. “There is a growing feeling that the king is being guided more by his own mortality than by royal protocol.

“Some believe this could be the last Christmas where he feels well enough to bring the whole family together, which is why there is quiet speculation he may attempt to draw Harry and Meghan back in, even if only for a short time.”

This comes after the King appeared in Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer broadcast with a pre-recorded message on December 12. During the message, the King shared that his treatments will be “reduced” in 2026.

“Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year,” the King said. “This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years; testimony that I hope may give encouragement to the fifty percent of us who will be diagnosed with the illness at some point in our lives.”

Buckingham Palace steered clear of the word remission, but did say the king was doing better and that the schedule of his treatments would decrease in the new year. “His Majesty has responded exceptionally well to treatment, and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase,” the spokesperson said. “This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritize his continued recovery.”

Whether this news means we are more likely to see a full reconciliation with Prince Harry or not remains to be seen.
