As King Charles battles cancer and just the regular problems that come with aging, there are some things that people pay attention to more than others. The world clearly recognises some things as signs of aging and others as having to do with cancer treatments. But then, there are some people who continue to have questions about.
For King Charles, that has to do with his fingers, which are commonly swollen. In fact, in a documentary about the coronation, the King himself even joked about his “sausage fingers,” a phrase he has previously used with great mirth and that has never seemed to be something that upsets him.

In fact, according to the royal biography The Man Who Will Be King by Howard Hodgson, the King once joked about it in a private letter written after the birth of William. “I can’t tell you how excited and proud I am,” Charles wrote. “He really does look surprisingly appetizing and has sausage fingers just like mine.”
RadarOnline.com consulted medical experts about the King’s fingers, and they report his appearance is nothing unusual in older adults. GP Chun Tang, medical director at Pall Mall Medical in Manchester, explained, “Often puffy fingers are a symptom of water retention, which can be caused by numerous health conditions,” he said.
“This condition arises due to inflammation and can be a result of arthritis, multiple bacterial infections, or even TB. Other possibilities include high salt levels, allergic reactions, medicinal side effects, injury, and autoimmune disease.”
The same outlet reported from sources close to Charles that he is “philosophical” and “light-hearted” about the attention paid to his hands.
“His appearance is picked apart in minute detail, and his hands have come to represent that level of attention,” an insider said, adding that the king is aware of the public interest. “He has been making light of it for years and doesn’t consider it something to be embarrassed about.”
Recently, King Charles appeared in Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer broadcast on December 12, and discussed his “overwhelming” cancer diagnosis and the importance of early detection.
“Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year,” the King said.
He added, “This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years; testimony that I hope may give encouragement to the fifty percent of us who will be diagnosed with the illness at some point in our lives.”
RadarOnline.com had recently reported that Charles might be thinking of inviting his youngest son, Prince Harry, for Christmas. “After such a turbulent year, particularly given the king’s health and the continuing repercussions from dealing with Prince Andrew, it is understandable that Charles would want this Christmas to carry deeper meaning,” the source added, explaining that he just wanted to spend time with his family. “And despite his positive cancer updates, he knows if things take a turn for the worse, it could be his last Christmas.”
