When someone as beloved as Rob Reiner and his wife Michele die, there’s widespread shock and sadness. That usually comes accompanied by a desire to pay respects. People want to be able to express how much Reiner and his work meant to them, and that’s why there’s been so much interest in his funeral. But when is the funeral taking place, and who is attending?
Rob Shuter’s Shuterstack is reporting that the funeral will be a private, carefully guarded ceremony, and it makes sense considering the circumstances of Rob and Michele Reiner‘s deaths and the fact that their son Nick has been charged with first-degree murder and could even face the death penalty.

“They know how many people want to pay their respects,” one insider told the gossip columnist, “but this first goodbye is strictly about family and the people who were in their lives every single day.” No date has been announced, but now that the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s official report has been released, the funeral is expected to take place within days.
Reports indicate the date and time will not be announced to the public, and security will be tight.
“The family is in shock,” another source said. “They cannot handle a public spectacle right now. This is about dignity, safety, and grief.”
According to these reports, the guest list will not be large, but it will include big names who were in the Reiner’s orbit, including Michelle and Barack Obama, Billy Crystal, and Larry David, among others.
“Rob and Michele lived very public lives,” a source said, “but their final farewell will be intentionally shielded from the public eye.” That doesn’t mean people who want to pay their respects won’t have a chance to do so at a later date. “This is not the end,” an insider explained. “There will be a public memorial, and every major award show is planning tributes. The industry wants — and needs — to honor them.”
All of this comes after US President Donald Trump recently posted on Truth Social about Reiner, calling him “a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star,” and saying that he “passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Michelle Obama responded to Trump’s comments during an appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, saying, “Let me just say this, unlike some people: Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know.”
She added, “They’re not deranged or crazed. What they have always been are passionate people. In a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on, they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country.”
On Dec. 17, Rob and Michele’s children, Romy and Jake, made a statement: “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
They continued, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
