There’s nothing awkward between Julianne Hough and Ryan Seacrest! More than a decade after their breakup, the two co-hosts are reuniting on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
While the American Idol host is taking on his veteran role of handling the New York part of the broadcast, Julianne Hough will be taking over Las Vegas hosting duties with Rob Gronkowski. The Wheel of Fortune host and the Dancing with the Stars host dated from 2010 to 2013. However, it’s not the first time that they’ve reunited. On Seacrest’s radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest, he had his ex on the show and said that his co-workers “don’t understand that concept that one can remain friends after a breakup.”
“[Julianne] feels the same I do,” he added. “There is nothing uncomfortable about it because we remained friends for years and still are.”
In fact, sources have disclosed that Ryan Seacrest signed off on his ex being on the legacy New Year’s Eve show. “Nothing happens on that show unless Ryan nods,” an insider told Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop. “He’s involved in every talent choice, every segment, every beat. If Julianne’s on-camera, it’s because he knew — and allowed it.”
Julianne Hough and Ryan Seacrest broke up due to their hectic schedules. A source told Us Weekly at the time, “It just got to be too much. I think they both just sort of knew they couldn’t do it anymore. The travel and lifestyle got to be too much.”
On Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Julianne talked about what led to her decision to end things. She recalled that she didn’t want people to think she was using him to get connections. “I had this insecurity that I was like, ‘I don’t ever want anybody to think that I’m with him for this reason,’” she reflected. “And so I then started playing smaller. I know that that was his experience in past situations and stuff, and so I again overcompensated, [I] was malleable to fit into exactly what somebody needed me to be for them to be happy.”
“And then because I’m so filled with love from someone, of course I love you. I love everyone. I’ve been in love with everybody I’ve ever dated, but have I? I don’t wanna overanalyze it because every person I’ve also dated has been a very good person.”
After breaking up with Seacrest, Hough went on to date former hockey player Brooks Laich in 2013, who she married in 2017. The two split in 2020. Seacrest dated Shayna Taylor and Aubrey Page. It’s believed that he’s currently single.
