Katy Perry’s Ex Just Revealed What He Really Thinks of Her Dating ‘Stooge’ Justin Trudeau After Reports He’s Only With Her For Her ‘Celebrity Status’
Katy Perry’s new relationship with Justin Trudeau has gotten a lot of scrutiny. That part is on par for the course for two people as high-profile as they are. But ever since Perry and her ex, Orlando Bloom, split up and the singer started dating the former Canadian Prime Minister, it seems like everyone’s got an opinion. And the latest person to provide theirs is one of Katy Perry’s exes.
The singer’s ex-husband, Russell Brand, had some things to say while at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona, as reported by Page Six. “Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her,” the comedian said. “I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom, [Mary Perry], is in the room to hear me say this, but look,” Brand continued, referring to Trudeau as a “globalist stooge.”

“I was OK with Orlando Bloom,” Brand said, referencing Perry’s ex-fiancé. “But Justin Trudeau? C’mon, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy!”
Perry and Brand started dating in 2009 and married in 2010, but by 2011, they were already going their separate ways. Perry then started dating her ex-fiancé, Orlando Bloom, in 2016. The pair, who share one daughter, split earlier in 2025. Trudeau and Perry, meanwhile, were first spotted together in July 2025 and went public with their relationship when they held hands outside the Crazy Horse in Paris for Perry’s birthday in October 2025.
And the relationship between Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau seems to be going pretty well so far. The two recently went Instagram official and have reportedly even made holiday plants together. Some, however, don’t believe the relationship is built to last.
Star recently reported that some in Perry’s circle are worried Trudeau likes the public side of the relationship a little too much. “People have been fascinated with Katy for years, and they’re always going to be curious about what she does next,” a source told the outlet. “Not so with Justin. He’s a nepo baby who flamed out in his political career and doesn’t have much of a path forward without his celebrity status.”
The former Canadian PM resigned from his position in government in January amid low approval ratings and pressure from his own party. There has been no official announcement from Trudeau about his plans for the future, although he seems likely to continue being involved in politics in some capacity after holding such a high-profile position.
“Dating Katy has made him more famous, in a positive way, and he doesn’t want this trend to stop,” the source added. “It’s absolutely key to his survival as a public figure,” the source also said.
Sure, Trudeau might have now entered the general consciousness due to dating Katy Perry, but it’s hard to argue that he was unknown before, and it’s unlikely he’s only dating her because of her fame. And Katy Perry is probably not taking dating advice from her ex, especially when his issues with the relationship seem to be more political than anything else.
