Kate Middleton and Prince William have had both a fairytale romance and a very rocky romance. The two, who met at university, had an ideal beginning to their relationship, then they took a break, reconnected, got married, and have been the picture of public happiness since. But there have been plenty of rumors of issues, including suggestions that William was having an affair.
But where is their relationship now? Apparently, better than ever. “He treats her like his bride,” royal historian Amanda Foreman told People. “They seem more loved-up than ever.”

This comes after the couple was seen last month at the Royal Variety Performance, displaying more PDA than they usually do. William lifted Kate’s hand for a kiss as they arrived, and then kept a hand on her back at they entered.
“What they have been through over the last few years has been so terrible,” Foreman says. “That either drives couples apart, or, in their case, it brings them together. It irons out the kinks and enables them to see each other clearly.”
Indeed, Middleton faced not just cancer, but intense speculation about her whereabouts. “She didn’t just face a life- threatening illness — the global Internet went after her,” Foreman says. “It was a character assassination.”
And the couple is reportedly trying to move forward, not just by now making more public appearances together and preparing for when it is Prince William’s time to be King, but by moving from Adelaide Cottage, which had been their home for the past few years, to Forest Lodge.
People also reports that their move to what is being called their “forever home” is the type of decision that “represents a long-term reset” and “exudes a sense of renewal.”
“After such rough times, it’s perfectly understandable they would want a new place,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told the outlet, explaining that “Adelaide Cottage was a place of pain, suffering, and sadness,” due to the things that happened in their lives while they were still living there.
It has been quite a turbulent past few years for the British royal family, with not just Kate Middleton being diagnosed with cancer, but King Charles as well. Middleton is in remission, but the king is still fighting his disease, though he is reportedly doing better. Then there’s the scandals surrounding the former Prince Andrew, which saw him stripped of his titles and ordered to vacate his home at Royal Lodge.
Kate and William’s response is the move, and what is being called a “fresh start.” The couple reportedly plans to still live at Forest Lodge even after William takes the throne, which is why so many renovations have been done to the place and so many precautions have been taken.
“They are signaling a different kind of lifestyle—it’s very centered on their children,” Foreman told People.
Cancer does make you reevaluate your priorities—and your relationships. And for Kate Middleton, it seems like she has come out in a better place.
