Rob Reiner’s Children Revealed the Next Step in the Memorial Process After Their Brother Was Charged With the Alleged Murder of Their Parents
More than a week after their tragic deaths, Rob and Michele Reiner’s children announced a memorial service for their parents.
“Jake and Romy Reiner remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received. They will share information about a memorial service honoring their parents at a later date,” a spokesperson said, on behalf of Jake and Romy Reiner, in a statement to People.
On Dec. 16, Rob and Michele’s son Nick Reiner was charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of his parents at their home in Brentwood. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life without parole or the death penalty, said Nathan Hochman, the Los Angeles district attorney.
A private memorial service was held at Albert Brooks’ house on Dec. 15, as Jewish tradition cites funerals should be held a day after their deaths. However, an autopsy was still being performed on their bodies. An undisclosed celebrity recalled the director saying he was scared of his son at Conan O’Brien’s party. “I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me,” the unspecified celeb recalled Rob said, per the Daily Mail.
Jake and Romy had previously given a statement about their parents’ deaths. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” the statement read. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
People confirmed that the bodies of Rob and Michele Reiner have been returned to their families, per the Los Angeles County Examiner’s Office. An autopsy has been performed on the bodies, but a full report will not be available until 90 days.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s official report indicates the two died of “multiple sharp force injuries,” with their deaths officially being ruled a “homicide.” The date of death is established as Dec. 14, 2025.
Rob Shuter’s Shuterstack is reporting that the funeral will be a private, carefully guarded ceremony. The guest list will not be large, but it will include big names who were in the Reiner’s orbit, including Michelle and Barack Obama, Billy Crystal, and Larry David, among others.
