Rob & Michele Reiner’s Kids’ Nightmare’ Isn’t Over After Their Brother Was Charged for Allegedly Killing Their Parents—’It’s Surreal’

The days since Rob and Michele Reiner were murdered have been pretty surreal for their two kids, Jake and Romy Reiner. Especially since their brother, the couple’s other son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the homicide of his parents. Nick Reiner is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility and facing life in jail with reports saying there’s a possibility the prosecution will be seeking the death penalty.
People is reporting that things for Jake and Romy have been difficult. “This nightmare isn’t even over for Romy and Jake. There is a lot more to be done, but they’ve been surrounded by loved ones and support in all forms, and that will continue,” an insider said.

“Romy and Jake have been close since they were young. That strong bond has really helped them in the last two weeks,” the source continued. “Romy and Jake are going out for walks or errands, trying to embrace any opportunities for moments of normalcy when it feels right, but this is all still so new and overwhelming.”
“It’s surreal. They’re still processing and their grief journey has really just begun.”
Rob and Michele Reiner’s autopsy report has yet to be released, but the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s official report confirmed the couple died of “multiple sharp force injuries,” with their deaths officially being ruled a “homicide.” Us Weekly reported that Nick Reiner’s issues with his parents had been going on for a while. “Nick’s problems have been going on for so long, so while everyone is in a state of shock right now, it’s not entirely surprising,” a source said.
The outlet added, “A lot of his anger was directed at his parents for many, many years,” with an insider saying, “They did everything a parent could possibly do to help him. Even in his younger years, they really tried to get him help. And then it became a cycle of seeking treatment for him, kicking him out, or him leaving the house, him moving back in.”
On Wednesday, December 17, Romy and Jake Reiner released a statement saying, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” it went on to say. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
The Reiners private funeral already took place and with awards season coming up plenty of memorials for the couple are expected in the months to come. The family has not yet announced any public memorials.
