Nicole Kidman & Russell Crowe’s ‘Closeness’ Is Reportedly ‘Threatening’ the Actor’s Relationship With His Girlfriend—The Actress Is ‘Refusing to Apologize’

Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe‘s friendship is reportedly threatening his relationship with his girlfriend. Sources say that the Babygirl actress is leaning on her longtime friend after her divorce from Keith Urban, and his partner, Britney Theriot, allegedly isn’t happy about it.
According to OK! Magazine, the Gladiator star took on the role of sounding board and steadying force, offering the kind of blunt, lived-in advice for his longtime friend after she announced her split from Urban in Oct. 2025. A source close to the actor said, “He understands exactly how devastating it is when a long marriage ends. He’s lived through that heartbreak himself, so when Nicole leaned on him, he didn’t hesitate. People think he’s all hard edges, but with her, he’s showing a much softer side.”
Another source told Radar Online that the two are often in contact with each other. “He’s been on the phone to her nearly every day just to check in and lift her spirits. They even managed to meet up for coffee not that long ago. Nicole is putting on a brave face but she’s been rocked by this. Russell has helped to steady her and she’s so grateful.”
Crowe even pitched the idea of being in the same projects so that Kidman could process her emotions. “Russell throws himself into work when he’s having a hard time, and Nicole is taking that advice to heart,” a source told the gossip site. “She’s signed on for one project after another. Some are even overlapping, so there’s very little time for her to wallow in sadness. Russell has pushed for them to collaborate on something. He’s sending her projects that he’s interested in, pushing her to read them.”
The two starred together in the drama Boy Erased in 2018. They also worked closely together at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts where Crowe served as president and Kidman as Vice President. In 2019, Crowe called Kidman “one of his favorite people in the world” when they accidentally sat next to each other on a flight to Australia.
“Russell has been through his own heartbreaking divorce after 15 years of marriage, so he can empathize with Nicole in a way that not everyone in her world can,” said a Radar Online insider, referring to his split from Danielle Spencer.
However, this bonding time might cause strain in his relationship with Britney Theriot. “Nicole is very clear that things between her and Russell are strictly platonic, but their closeness has people whispering and it’s not going over well with his girlfriend,” the insider said. “It’s tough for Britney to see Russell giving all this attention to another woman, especially when the other woman is Nicole. It’s bound to be threatening, but Russell is oblivious. Nicole’s aware of the chatter but tells everyone it’s just malicious gossip. She refuses to apologize.”
