And though things between him and billionaire Elon Musk appear to be better these days, that doesn’t mean there’s peace. That just means there’s another feud somewhere we should be paying attention to, and that reportedly involves Vice-president JD Vance.
According to Rob Shuter, Vance is already laying the groundwork for his own presidential run, and Trump hasn’t taken kindly to that. In fact, sources told the gossip columnist that Trump has started referring to Vance as “Prince William,” and not as a compliment. And here we thought Trump loved the royals.

Perhaps it’s just that, in Trump’s mind, he is the king. And Vance is the prince waiting for his turn. “JD should be very careful,” one source said. “If Donald feels even slightly pushed aside, he will attack. Trump doesn’t tolerate heirs — real or imagined.”
Reports indicate Vance is already assembling a campaign team and trying to zero in on early primary states, which makes sense if he really is preparing for a presidential run. But those in Trump’s inner circle are not pleased. “They’re watching every move,” a source said. “In Trump world, ambition equals betrayal.”
That’s not all. Insiders are warning about what will be Trump’s likely response to Vance laying the groundwork to succeed him. “Donald knows exactly what happens when challengers start gaining traction,” an insider said. “He’s seen this movie before — and he always strikes first.”
It’s a little too early to know what the presidential field looks like for the next election, on either the Republican side or the Democratic side, but Vance’s decision will likely shape what the field ends up looking like on the GOP side.
But for Trump, this isn’t politics, it’s personal. Almost everything is. “JD may think he’s planning a campaign,” one source said. “But Trump thinks he’s meeting a rival to the throne.”
All of this comes amid other troubling reports about JD Vance’s marriage to Usha Vance, something people are paying close attention to as well. Political figures are, of course, subject to a lot of speculation about the state of their marriages. People speculate about the Obamas all the time, just as they do about President Trump and first lady Melania Trump. But they don’t always have something to go on.
This time, they kinda do. Usha Vance has been seen without her wedding ring multiple times.
Vance addressed these rumors in a recent interview with NBC News published on December 5, 2025. “I think that we kind of get a kick out of it,” he said. “With anything in life, you take the good with the bad. You accept that there are some sacrifices and there are some very good things that come along with it, too. But our marriage is as strong as it’s ever been, and I think Usha’s really taken to it, and it’s been kind of cool to see how she’s developed and evolved in this new role.”
