With Wicked: For Good being nominated for five Golden Globes at the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, one question looms in every fan’s mind: Where is Cynthia Erivo?

Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba in both Wicked and Wicked: For Good, was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. It’s the second year in a row that she was nominated for the role, and she became the first Black woman to be nominated twice in the category.

Why Isn’t Cynthia Erivo at the Golden Globes 2026?

Cynthia Erivo won’t be attending the Golden Globes because she is currently in the middle of production for the West End’s Dracula. In the play, Erivo will be playing 23 roles in the one-woman show. The show is set to go into previews on February 4.

While she won’t be in attendance at the awards show, she has spoken about how she’s honored to be nominated. “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind from the beginning of the first film right through to this moment here. I don’t know that any experience is comparable. I don’t think I’ve experienced anything like it,” Erivo told The Hollywood Reporter the day when nominations were announced.

“To be nominated twice with this movie is really special,” she says. “I think that’s a testament to the work of Jon Chu and every single other person who has touched this set — Ari[ana Grande] and Jonathan [Bailey] and Marc Platt, who is our wonderful producer. Everyone has done such beautiful work, and I feel very lucky to be a part of it.”

She also reflected about how the chapter is now closed after the second movie. “I think it’s time to be able to let it go, to give it away to the watchers, the audience,” she explains. “It’s never really going to leave our lives just because it’s been such a big part of our lives.”

As for the role that she’s preparing to star in, she’s amping it up to be one of the most unique experiences in her acting career. “I’m f—ing petrified. I really am. I’m very scared,” Erivo said of taking on the 23 roles in Wonderland Magazine. “But I’m also like — I don’t know, is this sadistic of me — but I’m really excited about it as well. It’s absolutely nonsensical and insane.”

Cynthia Erivo’s co-star Ariana Grande, who is also nominated for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture, will be in attendance at the awards show. In light of her nomination, she told THR, that the honor was “definitely just as exciting [as last year’s] and kind of blindsiding.” “You don’t expect something like this, let alone [for it] to happen twice for the same role. So I’m just deeply honored. I’m just really moved by it,” she said.
