When Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott divorced, they truly went their separate ways in everything. Bezos went on to marry journalist Lauren Sánchez, while Scott was publicly open about her desire to use her new fortune for good. Scott publicly vowed to donate most of her money to charitable endeavors during her lifetime, and she has been doing exactly that.
In 2025, Scott donated more than $7 billion to nonprofit groups, which brings her total to $26 billion since 2020. This stands as one of the largest single-year donations in history, placing Scott alongside philanthropists such as Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates, and Warren Buffett. Most of Scott’s donations focused on DEI, disaster recovery, and higher education. She also donated to progressive funding hubs that distribute grants to activists.

Scott published an essay on her website, where she explained, “This dollar total will likely be reported in the news, but any dollar amount is a vanishingly tiny fraction of the personal expressions of care being shared into communities this year.” In past years she donated $2.6 billion in 2024 and $2.1 billion in 2023.
In the essay, Scott also talked about how she wants her investments to align with her goals. “There are many ways to influence how we move through the world, and where we land,” she wrote.
Scott’s net worth is reportedly around $40 billion, according to Forbes. Her ex-husband, Bezos, still owns around 9% of the company he founded in 1994, and his net worth is $230.2 billion. A big difference, but there’s also a big difference in how their money is being spent.
News about Scott comes after new reports about Jeff Bezos and his new wife. The couple celebrated Christmas in Aspen and then were spotted at celebrity hotspot Nikki Beach in St. Barts, where Sánchez was reportedly up for a party, but Bezos was not.
“Lauren’s energy is non-stop,” a source told Rob Shuter. “She was jumping, dancing, laughing — and Jeff was hanging on for dear life. He looked wiped.”
And the party didn’t stop. “It was like a whirlwind — Jeff just followed along,” the journalist also reported. “He’s happy, but he’s clearly worn out trying to match her,” another source said.
Just recently, the couple announced their own charitable endeavors. The Amazon founder and his wife, Sánchez, donated $5 million to the founder of a neurodivergent student support network. He was among five winners of last year’s Bezos Courage & Civility Award. The grant, which has been given most years since 2021, celebrates leaders who create innovative solutions to often overlooked challenges.
But perhaps the biggest recent news abut the couple is the fact that they’re set to be the primary donors for the 2026 Met Gala, which will be “Costume Art” themed. “I think Lauren is going to be a wonderful asset to the museum and to the event,” Anna Wintour told CNN. “[I’m] very grateful for her incredible generosity, and she’s a great lover of costume and obviously of fashion, so we’re thrilled she’s part of the night.”
