A lot of what has happened since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to the US has transpired in the eye of the public. That’s perhaps why so many people are invested in the feud between Harry and the rest of the royal family. And though Harry recently met up with his father, King Charles, there doesn’t seem to be a clear end in sight to the feud with his brother, Prince William.

But once upon a time, the two were close, as proven by the fact that Harry named his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton, in a witness statement filed as part of his lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday.

Harry is one of several people accusing the newspaper group of unlawful information gathering. The witness statement by Harry included a list meant to demonstrate the people he was in regular contact with during the period in question, which runs from 1996 to 2014, as part of his argument that the private information published could only have been obtained through unlawful means.

Among the people Harry said he was in regular contact with are Prince William, Princess Kate, his father King Charles, and his former girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

“HRH The Prince of Wales, my brother William,” the statement reads, according to People. “Due to his position, the press have always been very interested in him. As brothers, we naturally discussed personal aspects of our lives as we trusted each other with the highly sensitive information we shared about our private, family and professional lives.”

“HM King Charles III, my father,” the statement also says. “During the Relevant Period, my father and I were in regular contact. He was also of great interest to the press due to his position. My private information would have been present on voicemails, containing highly personal, private and sensitive information, left on his landline phone by me, other members of my family and the Royal Household.”

He also briefly mentioned Kate Middleton, without going into much of an explanation, and his ex-girlfriend, Davy.

“Chelsy Davy, a former girlfriend. We met in about early 2004 and were in a relationship which continued, on and off, until around mid-2010. Our relationship was long distance for the majority of the time we were together, with Chelsy and I often living in different countries,” the entry said.

In the documents, Harry also says that as a “member of the Institution,” he felt like he should follow the rule of “never complain, never explain” when it came to media coverage. “There was no alternative; I was conditioned to accept it,” Harry said.

Harry also spoke on his testimony about why he had chosen to push back, per People. “By standing up here and taking a stand against them, this has continued to come after me,” Harry said. “And they have made my wife’s life an absolute misery, my Lord.”

The prince also made clear that things only got worse after he pushed back. “Through the course of this litigation, it’s only got worse, not better,” he explained. “It’s fundamentally wrong to put all of us through all of this again. What’s required is an apology and some accountability. It’s a horrible experience.”
