New updates surrounding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy, have emerged.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department believes that the 84-year-old “was taken from the home” after she was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2025. She was last seen on Saturday, Jan. 31, at her residence in Tucson, Ariz. Family went to her residence the day after, and they were alerted that she had failed to show up to church that morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The Los Angeles Times reported that a source disclosed that there was blood found at the crime scene. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos also noted that Nancy has limited mobility and “couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.” He said to NBC News on Monday, “Just call us. Let her go. Just call us. The family will tell you, there’s no questions asked here.”
“If she’s alive right now, her meds are vital,” the Sheriff said. “I can’t stress that enough.” Without her medications, the case becomes life-threatening if she goes without them for more than 24 hours.
He added, “This just doesn’t happen in Tucson. We don’t see someone at 84 years of age go home, go to bed, and then in the middle of the night just disappear from her own home, from her own bed. That’s not who we are.”
Nanos called out the urgency of the case in an interview with Us Weekly, “We don’t want anybody to lose hope,” he said. “But in the same sense, just as there’s hope, there’s also things that point to us that say, ‘This lady’s in danger.’”
He also stated that the “possibility” of Savannah being a “national figure” as a TV host could be connected, but law enforcement is “not getting that sense” at the time. “We keep working with Savannah and her security team to understand any kind of threat or potential threat that they may have been working and we’re just not there,” he told Us.
On Feb. 3, Nanos gave another update to Today, saying, “It is a race against time, and I hope that window hasn’t closed.”
“We took some samples that we hope would have profile of a DNA, profile that gives us some identification as to what we’re looking at.”
Nanos told reporters that Nancy has “no cognitive issues” and is “very alert, she’s of good, sound mind.” However, Nanos also noted that Nancy is “not in good physical health.”
Savannah Guthrie was noticeably absent on the Today show on Feb. 2 and 3, and released a statement: “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
She also thanked supporters in an Instagram post, posted on Monday, Feb. 2. “we believe in prayer,” she wrote. “we believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. we believe in goodness. we believe in humanity. above all, we believe in Him.”
She added, “thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
