The recent Andrew scandal has been so big that it has affected not just the usual suspects, King Charles and Prince William. Instead, the entire British royal family has had to pretty much pick a side, and obviously, that means they’ve all to separate themselves from Andrew. But if the whole thing has evidenced something is that the relationships there were, perhaps, not all that great to begin with.

Prince Edward became the first member of the royal family to address the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, while speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Tuesday, Feb. 3. And the Duke of Edinburgh, Andrew’s younger brother, was very clear that “it’s really important to remember the victims.”

When asked how he was coping with the controversy, according to The Independent, he replied, “Well, with the best will in the world. I’m not sure this is the audience that is probably the least bit interested in that. They all came here to listen to education, solving the future.”

“But no, I think it’s all really important always to remember the victims, and who are the victims in all this, a lot of victims in all this.”

This comes as even more proof of Andrew’s ties to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein has been released in the last batch of the Epstein files. And some of it is pretty awful. In the latest files released, there is an alleged correspondence between Epstein and the former Prince Andrew that includes Andrew sharing photos of his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, when they were younger.

Alleged correspondence between Andrew and Epstein happened after Epstein was convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution and soliciting prostitution in Florida, and after Andrew claimed he’d cut off all contact with Epstein.

The new batch of files also features Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and it also includes mentions of one of the couple’s daughters, Princess Eugenie. When Epstein asked about a trip to New York, Sarah allegedly replied. “Not sure yet. Just waiting for Eugenie to come back from a shagging weekend!!” At the time Eugenie was already dating her now husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Andrew was recently stripped of his titles by his brother, King Charles, and ordered to vacate his home at Royal Lodge after the posthumous publication of Virginia Giuffre’s memoirs. Giuffre claimed she was forced into sexual encounters with Andrew when she was underage.

Edward’s comments come after reports that he’s been standing firmly behind the King during the Andrew scandal, as has the rest of the royal family. At this point, it’s a matter of survival for the monarchy in general, after all. Royal expert and author Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly, “Andrew bullied his little brother when they were younger, but they grew closer over the years.”

“Still, Edward has no choice but to fully support Charles in his efforts to rid himself of the problematic Duke of York.”

And the more of the truth that comes out, the more we can probably expect everyone in the family to try to put some distance between them an Andrew’s conduct. The question is, of course, how successful they will be.
