Charlie Puth addressed gaybaiting claims in a resurfaced interview with GQ in 2022. He responded to the accusations when asked about his social media thirst traps at the time, which included videos of him working out or zooming into his crotch.

“I am very horny. All the time,” Puth said at the time before explaining that his thirst traps were simply to show off progress in the gym. “These gym sessions are expensive in LA!” he said, maintaining that he didn’t post his shirtless videos to “antagonize anybody.”

Despite denying the gaybaiting claims, Puth did admit that he gets musical inspiration from the queer community. “I think LGBTQ+ culture is so ahead of its time, culturally, sonically, musically, everything-ly,” he said. That when I had a less than perfect song at the studio and I was by myself and I saw everybody having a great time, I literally heard a different song in my head. I rearranged the whole thing, I drove back to the studio, I was so inspired.” The song he was referring to was his 2022 song “Loser.”

While Puth hasn’t confirmed his sexuality, he married his wife, childhood friend Brooke Sansone, in 2024. “When I was standing up there, I have never felt more connected to Charlie — it was like time stopped,” Sansone told Vogue days after the weding. “Without realizing it, we had both included the same line in our vows: ‘It’s always been you.'”

Prior to his wedding to Sansone, Puth hinted that he was dating his childhood friend in an interview on The Howard Stern Show. “I’m with somebody,” he said, adding that he was “definitely” in love and thought that relationship was “it” for him.

“[She’s] someone that I grew up with,” he said, adding that it’s “nice” to have someone he’s known for a “long time” with him, given how crazy his career has been.

“She’s always been very, very nice to me,” he said. “I would assume that when times inevitably are hard in the future — because what is life without valleys and peaks — she would be there for me as well.”

He continued, “Honestly, I get so scared of people now, like, I can’t really walk anywhere for whatever reason, and I think the more that happens, the more I just want to retreat to someone that I’ve known for a long time,” he said of the relationship. “I’m not really interested in going out like I used to and being crazy.”

Before his marriage to Sansone, Puth was linked to other famous women, including Bella Thorne, Selena Gomez, and Charlotte Lawrence.
