Savannah Guthrie seemingly used a code word in a video directed toward her missing mother Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers, a former FBI agent claims.

Jason Pack, a retired FBI special agent an crisis negotiator, told The Daily Mail in a report published on February 7 that he believed a certain word used in Savannah’s recent social media video with her sister, Annie Guthrie, and brother, Camron Guthrie, was a secret strategic message to her mother’s abductors. “We received your message, and we understand,” Savannah read from a piece of paper in the video, which was posted on February 7. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.” She continued, “This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.” She captioned the post, “Bring her home.”

Pack told The Daily Mail that the word “celebrate” was used to not threaten Nancy’s captors so that she can be released safely. “The word ‘celebrate’ stood out to me immediately. Savannah didn’t say ‘surrender her’ or ‘give her back,’” Pack said. ” She said return her so we can ‘celebrate’. That’s the language of resolution, not confrontation.” He continued, “In any negotiation, you want to offer the other party a way to see this ending positively and peacefully for them too.”

He added, “The most dangerous moments come when communication breaks down. The Guthries are doing everything they can to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Two days after her video with Annie and Camron, Savannah shared another social media video in which she begged for the public’s help in finding her mother. The new video was posted less than four hours before an alleged deadline listed in a ransom note for Savannah’s mom demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin by Monday, February 9, at 5 p.m.

“I just want to say first of all, thank you so much for all of the prayers and the love that we have felt — my sister, my brother and I. And that our mom has felt,” Savannah said in her video. “Because we believe that somehow, someway, she is feeling these prayers and that God is lifting her in this moment and in this darkest place.”

Shecontinued, “We believe our mom is still out there. We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock, trying to bring her home, trying to find her. She was taken and we don’t know where. And we need your help.”

Savannah ended her video by asking the public to report on anything suspicious to police. “I’m coming on just to ask you, not just for your prayers but no matter where you are — even if you’re far from Tucson — if you see anything, if you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you that you report to law enforcement,” she said. “We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help.”
