The first real leads in the Nancy Guthrie investigation have law enforcement and the public at large focusing on the few things we do know at this point, with the hopes of finding some answers. And one of those things is what the suspect in the kidnapping looks like. Or, at least, their height and build alongside a few other details that have been made obvious by their appearance on surveillance photos and videos that have been released.
But what do we know about the suspect? And what physical characteristics is law enforcement focusing on that might help people locate them? Here’s what we know.

According to a statement posted on X, a forensic analysis of the doorbell camera footage made by the FBI’s Operational Technology Division identified the suspect as a male around 5’9” – 5’10” tall with an average build. The backpack he is wearing is a black, 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack,” according to officials.
People have taken to X to compare that height with the Guthrie family, and especially to point out that Savannah’s brother-in-law, Tomasso, is the same height. Savannah Guthrie is also pointed out as being 5’10. However, as people are estimating weight based on pictures, it’s hard to tell for sure.
Tomasso is short to average.

The speculation probably comes due to the fact that there had been rumors that Annie’s husband, Tomasso Cioni, was a suspect in the investigation in the first few days after Guthrie’s disappearance. However, police quickly responded in the negative.
“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” Sheriff Nanos said in a statement last Wednesday, February 4. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation. No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time.”
The height information was shared in the hopes it could “help concentrate the public tips we are receiving,” as the FBI has gotten over 13,000 tips from the public related to Nancy’s case since Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1st.
In the pictures and video released by the FBI, the suspect is wearing a ski mask, jacket, and gloves, and carrying a weapon. TMZ has reported that law enforcement believes the kidnapper is from the Tucson area, which is why the ransom note was sent not only to TMZ but to two local TV stations. Plus, there’s also the fact that in the note, the kidnapper promised to return Nancy Guthrie within 12 hours of receiving the ransom, which has been set at 6 million.
“We appreciate the assistance and support we have received from the Tucson community,” the FBI had said in another statement, where they also once again emphasized the $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.
