With the shocking news of his arrest, new reports emerged that Shia LaBeouf had split from his wife, Mia Goth.

On Feb. 17, Shia LaBeouf was arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery after getting into a fight with two men in the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. Onlookers of the incident told The Hollywood Reporter that LaBeouf exhibited “inebriated” behavior and was “somewhat belligerent.”

While reports of the arrest were emerging, TMZ and Page Six reported that Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth had split prior to the news.

Why did Shia LaBeouf & Mia Goth break up?

TMZ revealed that Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth broke up a year ago. It’s not known whether Goth or LaBeouf filed for divorce. The Transformers star reportedly moved to New Orleans after the breakup to be closer to family members.

This isn’t the first time that the Pearl star and the Megalopolis actor had split. The stars married in 2016 in a Las Vegas ceremony with an Elvis impersonator officiator that was livestreamed by TMZ. The two filed for divorce in 2018, with a rep for LaBeouf stating, “The separation is amicable and all details pertaining to the divorce proceedings will remain private.” They reconciled in 2020 after he dated FKA Twigs, who sued him for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress, alleging a pattern of “relentless” abuse.

Goth and LaBeouf welcomed a baby girl in 2022, and the latter confirmed her birth in a letter published by Variety. “I have a little girl, Isabel; she is five months old and just beginning to develop the last half of her laugh; it’s AMAZING,” he wrote. “Mia, my wife & I have found each other again & are journeying toward a healthy family with love and mutual respect.”

On the Real Ones podcast, LaBeouf cited his wife for being there with him through hard times. “[Goth] saved my f–king life,” he said. “She was present for me at a time when I didn’t deserve to have nobody in my life, especially her.”

LaBeouf added at the time, “She gave me hope when I was really running on fumes.”

Goth hasn’t talked about her relationship with Shia LaBeouf publicly. In an interview with Elle, she set clear boundaries of what she could talk about: “What I don’t want to talk about is Shia LaBeouf,” she said. However, she did share the joys of being a mother. “It’s a really psychedelic experience to have a child,” she reflected. “You’re parenting her, but you’re also parenting the version of you that existed when you were that age. The amount of love that you can feel. She’s the greatest gift of my life.”

She’s deeply mindful of the influence she has on her daughter, who can already recognize that “Mummy is an actress.” (According to Goth, Isabel does not find this impressive.) Goth’s voice becomes stronger, more urgent, as she shares her hopes for their relationship as they grow older. “I really hope to be something steady for her,” she says. “That no matter what happens in her life, she can return to me. No matter what her age—if she’s in a shitty relationship or something’s not going right at work—she can always come home. And she’ll always have a bed to sleep in and a home-cooked meal.”
